Council Minutes of 10/17/2000
Mr. Gareau scheduled a meeting of the Streets & Drainage Committee for 6:30 p.m. on
Monday, October 23. The Service Director is asked to attend.
Mrs. Kasler scheduled a Legislative Committee meeting immediately following the
Streets & Drainage Committee on October 23 to discuss Resolutions 2000-141 and
2000-142 and Ordinances 2000-144 and 2000-145. Human Resources Director Copeland
and the Mayor are asked to attend.
Mr. Nashar scheduled a BZD Committee meeting for 6:30 p.m. on November Z to
discuss Ordinances 2000-140, 99-108, 99-83, 99-113, 2000-81 and 2000-118 and
Planning Commission items. The Building Commissioner and City Engineer are asked to
attend.
Mr. Gareau said he wanted to express his concern that Council's "informal poll" on the
non-binding vote regarding street lighting could potentially be ignored. He would like to
make that right. He would entertain Council's thoughts on scheduling a special meeting
to appropriate money for designated streets. Mr. O'Grady said he thought that informal
poll should be ignored by the administration. Mr. Gareau made a motion to establish a
special Council meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, and directed that the Law
Department draft legislation concerning the appropriation of $328,000 for the streets that
were voted on by City Council at the Committee-of--the-Whole meeting. The motion was
seconded by Mrs. Kasler. Roll call: Gareau, yes; Kasler, yes; McKay, yes; Limpert, no;
Miller, yes; Nashar, yes; O'Grady, no, with comment that he could not attend that
evening and would like it changed to another night. The motion passed with five
affirmative votes and two negative votes. The special meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on
October 26. With regard to Mr. Gareau's comments, Mayor Musial said he does not have
the power to make a decision for the Board of Control. They will follow the regular
course of administrative operation to have a Board of Control meeting and to bring the
question and the issue before them with the pronouncement that Council has desired to
follow this particular avenue.
With the agenda being completed and there being no further business to come before
Council, President Saringer adjourned the meeting at 9:35 p.m.
,~
/'i
-c~~-a...."
Barbara L.
