Council Minutes of 7/5/2000
Mr. Miller scheduled a Transportation Committee meeting immediately following the
a BZD Committee on July 11. Safety Director Jenkins is asked to attend. The committee
will discuss a letter received from Mr. James Depauw with regard to right turn on red.
Mr. Miller requests input from the Traffic Engineer and/or the Police Department.
Mr. Miller noted that at the May 2, 2000 Council meeting he had indicated that the
signage at Brookpark extension and Dover Center, more specifically the plate that
indicates the hours that allow a right turn on red, were unreadable. No change has taken
place as yet. Also, a month ago under Miscellaneous Business, he indicated that he was
"scared as hell" about the crosswalk on Claque Road at the Claque Park. The logo sign,
as you approach that crosswalk, does not clearly indicate that you should stop for people
in the crosswalk. The lettering on the signage immediately above the crosswalk is so
small that a pedestrian could be hit before a driver realizes he/she has to stop. This is a
very dangerous situation. There is a similar crosswalk at Canterbury Road which is also
dangerous. He asked President Saringer to assign this to a committee so that the issue
could be addressed before someone gets hurt. (A lengthy discussion ensued as to what
exactly needed to be done to make the crosswalks on Claque Road and Canterbury Road
safe. President Saringer assigned the issue to be discussed at a joint meeting of the
Transportation and Public Safety Committees.)
With the agenda being completed and there being no further business to come before
Council, President Saxinger
L. Seman, Cleat of Council
the meeting at 9:58 p.m.
~~
J t A. Saringer, President of C ncil
8
