Council Minutes of 6/20/2000
Susan Gatti represented Nextel. Nextel is asking for 12 antennas on the existing
AT&T tower. The tower is 123 feet tall, and they are requesting that antennas be
~' mounted at the 120 ft. height. The equipment shelter will be positioned so as to allow
additional equipment to be installed at a later date within the fenced azea that we
presently have. This proposal was contingent on approval by the city and all the
boards and commissions. The BZD Committee recommended approval. Mr. Nashar
moved that Council approve Nextel to mount antennas on the existing AT&T tower
subject to all recommendations of the committee and boards and commissions. The
motion was seconded by Mr. O'Grady and unanimously passed.
• Golf Galaxy located at 25905 Lorain Road, which is located in the Brooklor
Shopping Center. Representing Brooklor Shopping Center was Richazd Soclof, and
Mr. Soclof indicated that they will be removing two of the four overhead doors
located on the east end of the building. Also, they will be adding an overhead door
on the west end of the building. Mr. Soclof indicated that there would be landscaping
screening directly in front of the new loading dock azea, which may not be seen from
Lorain Road. There will also be two handicapped spaces in the front of that azea. The
door will be used exclusively for small packages. The BZD Committee made a
recommendation that additional landscaping be added, and Mr. Soclof said that he
would review this matter with Mr. Dave Wendell, the City Forester. This was done,
and Dave Wendell presented a proposal for Golf Galaxy to add additional
landscaping at that particular area. Landscaping will be placed on the north side of
the building along Lorain Road. The committee recommended approval subject to
the boards and commissions and the City Forester. Mr. Nashar moved that Council
~'~ approve the proposal for Golf Galaxy located at 25905 Lorain Road subject to all
`"~"` recommendations of the committee and boards and commissions. The motion was
seconded by Mr. Gazeau and unanimously approved.
• C & M Street Performance, Inc., located at 29919 Lorain Road. There was no one in
attendance representing C & M, but more than 6 residents from Bretton Ridge
development were in attendance to oppose this particulaz business. The proposal by
C & M would allow assembly of high performance vehicles and retail sale of
automobile parts at that particulaz location. This location is in a retail district and
does not allow for manufacturing and/or assembly of cars. This proposal was denied
by the Planning Commission, and the BZD Committee of Council also denied the
request for C & M. Mr. Nashar made a motion that Council deny the request by
C & M, 29919 Lorain Road, and then asked the Law Director for his advice as to
whether this was the proper procedure to follow. After determining that the proposal
had been denied by the Planning Commission and that C & M had not requested a
review by the BZD Committee, Law Director Gazeau rendered the opinion that the
request died at the point of denial by the Planning Commission. It is not necessary to
take a vote to reject what, in essence, was not a submittal to the committee. Mr.
Nashar withdrew his motion.
• Horizon Activity Center, 4001 David Drive. Representing Horizon Activity Center
was Dave Smith. This proposal was to review the Fire Department's access, and an
agreement was reached by the Assistant Chief who was willing to waive certain
requirements of Ordinance 96-106 pertaining to the number of fire hydrants needed
and fire vehicle access in exchange for additional stand pipes to be located within the
.. _,A.~~,...~..:,~ ,_ . ~ ,..:..
