Council Minutes of 5/16/2000
is perhaps we are not getting to those families who are most at risk--families that have
small children in the home where the parent or guardian chooses to have a firearm in the
home. The North Olmsted Gun Lock Program as it's envisioned would procure for the
resident a gun lock at cost. And then a member of the Community Policing detail of the
North Olmsted Police Department would go out to the residence and show them how to
use the gun lock, put it in place and given them a class on gun safety.
Mr. Limpert, chairperson of the Recreation, Public Parks and Buildings Committee: 1)
On May 8, in a joint meeting of Recreation and Finance, Ordinances 2000-40 and 2000-
41 were discussed. Ordinance 2000-50 is an ordinance accepting the sanitary easement pump
station and force main easement located on the property owned by W & Z Properties
Limited and designated as P. P. No. 236-11-18 and 236-12-10 on the Cuyahoga County
Maps and Records. W & Z Properties has granted to the City of North Olmsted an
easement for a sanitary sewer pump and a force main on the property adjacent to the west
end of Al Moen Drive. When this pump was installed back in 1995, it was built to
accommodate any additional building or buildings on this particular site. The committee
unanimously recommended approval for Ordinance 2000-50.
2) On Saturday, May 20, and Saturday, May 27, he and Councilman Miller are
sponsoring a volunteer gun turn-in program. The program has been very popular. He
would like to thank the Westlife newspaper for contributing one-year subscriptions;
Geppetto's of North Olmsted, Ganley Pontiac & Honda and Giant Eagle for contributing
$10 gift certificates from Giant Eagle; Great Northern Dodge for contributing $29 oil
change certificates. These items will be included in the packet presented to each resident
who turns in any type of gun, rifle or ammunition to the North Olmsted Police. The
hours will be from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on both Saturdays. Mr. Miller added that, if a
resident has a gun they feel they are not adequately able to handle safely, they can call the
Police Department to their home and the police will remove the gun.
5
