Council Minutes of 3/8/2000
Roll call on the motion to amend the Rules of Council: O'Grady, yes; Limpert, yes;
,,. Gareau, no, with comment that he thought this particular amendment to the rules seeks to
correct a problem that doesn't exist. He believes in the old saying, "If it's not broke,
don't fix it." He does not think there is anything wrong with the system that has been
used for the past twenty years to select members of committee, and he believes that
system should remain in place. Roll call continued: Kasler, no, with comment that her
thoughts mirror Mr. Gareau's comments. Roll called continued: McKay, yes; Miiler, no,
with comment that he also concurs with the comments made by Mr. Gareau. He
continues his objection to these rule changes, and they are clearly not in the best interests
of the citizens of the community. Roll call continued: Nashar, yes. The motion passed
with four affirmative votes and three negative votes.
President Saringer asked Finance Committee Chairperson McKay to take into
consideration during the budget hearings an amount to be set aside for an Assistant Clerk
of Council. Mr. McKay said he would.
Mr. Gareau moved to adjourn into executive session for the purpose of discussing
litigation and land acquisition. The motion was seconded by Mr. Limpert and
unanimously approved.
Council adjourned into executive session at 9:50 p.m.
Council reconvened at 10:40 p.m.
Mr. McKay scheduled a Finance Committee meeting for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March
15, 2000 to discuss the appropriations, Ordinance 2000-27. All members of Council and
the Mayor are asked to attend.
With the agenda being completed and there being no further business to come before
Council, President Saringer adjourned the meeting at 10:41 p.m.
.,
/,~
1$arbara L.
