Council Minutes of 2/15/2000
metal chain in front of the building and also on the east side of the building. The
BZD Committee did not like the aesthetics of this chain and asked Mr. Halleen if he
r
would reconsider his design and return at a later date. Mr. Halleen agreed to o so.
The committee will hold this matter open in the BZD Committee.
• CVS Pharmacy, to be located at the southwest corner of Porter and Lorain roads. The
proposal calls for the demolition of three existing buildings and the construction of a
new 10,125 foot retail pharmacy. Representing CVS was Mr. John Wotjila from
Zaremba Group and Mr. Richard Zimmerman from ZZ Design Inc. This proposal has
been before the Landmarks Commission, the Planning Commission, and the
Architectural Review Board. CVS has worked for this concept design instead of just
putting up a regular square box. The front of the building will have a 63 foot setback,
which is 20 foot further from the original apartment building. By moving the
building back off of Lorain Road, the area will be opened up and increase pedestrian
visibility and visibility lines for traffic eastbound on Lorain Road and for traffic
turning right onto Porter and continuing east onto Butternut Ridge Road. A traffic
study was conducted by the city traffic engineer. The North Olmsted Fire and Police
Departments reviewed the study and had no objections. The color of the brick will be
Mohican blend and the lights will be Sternburg, which is an old-town style type light.
There will be adrive-through pick up window on the east side of the building. Also,
there will be a brick wall along the entire south residential area. There will be
landscaping on four sides of the building and additional trees will be planted along
the sidewalk with wrought iron fencing on the outside perimeter. There will be a
raised canopy at the entrance of the building without any signage on it because of the
residential area which it will be facing. The signage on the building will be white
letters. The parking lot will have underground retention. There will be two 20 foot
light poles, and the lights will be shining downward. CVS has added a decorated
lamp and post and benches to make the store unique. The windows will have
awnings placed above them. The monument sign is 20 foot square with 16 inch
letters. The brick on the monument will match the same as that on the building. The
dock and the dumpster area will be on the west side of the building and this will also
be enclosed with brick. The hours of operation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Monday through Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 6. The BZD Committee
made recommendations for approval of CVS Pharmacy subject to all the
recommendations and requirements of the boards and commissions and the
committee. Mr. O'Grady noted that during the committee meeting Mr. Miller had
made a recommendation that the color of the red lettering be darker--similar to what
was being used for the awnings. (At this point, Mr. Nashar moved that Council
recess for five minutes. The motion was seconded by Mr. O'Grady and unanimously
approved. Council recessed at 9 p.m. to discuss colors with the representatives of
CVS Pharmacy who were in attendance. Council reconvened at 9:05 p.m.) After the
recess, Mr. Nashar said the building materials for the brick will be a plantation blend
and also a light gray brick material. The letters on the main CVS store will be white,
and they will be illuminated. The color of the non-illuminated letters will be a red
acrylic. The awning material will be a crimson red (No. 8603). Mr. Nashar moved
for approval of the project subject to all recommendations and requirements. The
motion was seconded by Mr. Gareau and unanimously approved.
6
