Council Minutes 1/18/2000
generally follows the oldest streets first policy adopted by the administration last year.
"" Exceptions are being made for areas where engineering has been completed already or
where related work is being conducted nearby. Mr. Miller noted that Pine Circle should
have been on the list. Service Director Bohlmann confirmed that the omission of Pine
Circle was an error as all streets in the neighborhood were getting street lights. The
committee recommended approval of Ordinance 2000-5.
2) A separate Safety Committee meeting to review Ordinance 99-156, which eliminated
the city's cinema safety policy, had been scheduled for January 12. This meeting was
cancelled at the request of John Galinac of the Motion Picture Projectionists Union Local
160. Since it was Mr. Galinac's initiative and his request to have this meeting and since
he no longer sees a need for this meeting, the Safety Committee at this time plans no
further action with regard to Ordinance 99-156.
Mr. Gareau asked that it be noted for the record that, during the discussion of Ordinance
2000-5, there was some discussion about LeBern which was not on the list for
illumination. Service Director Bohlmann pointed out that the lighting issue for LeBern
would be taken up when the street is eventually repaired, which will hopefully be within
the next few years.
Mr. Limpert, chairperson of the Recreation, Public Parks and Buildings Committee: 1}
He attended the Recreation Commission meeting on January 10. Agenda items were as
follows:
The Rec Commissioner gave a report on the various holiday activities that took place
at the Recreation Center. Much of that information was provided in the Mayor's
report at the last Council meeting.
The major topic of discussion before the commission was the new shelter that will be
donated by Community Council. He would like to correct some details about the
shelter which he previously reported on. Because it had been referred to as a "4400,"
he originally believed the shelter was to be a 4,400 square foot facility. However, it
is actually an octagonal shaped building which is about 44 feet by 44 feet,
approximately a 1,6000 square foot facility. The commission agrees that the best
place to put the shelter would be just south of the road that cuts through the park.
There was also discussion as to future relocation of the tennis and basketball courts.
The commission discussed the possibility of checking the city's coverage of business
interruption insurance for the Rec Center. It is his understanding from Mrs. Popa that
the city policy does include business interruptions at the Rec Center, but he hopes to
get that in writing from her. This coverage is important given the age of some of the
refrigeration facilities and things of that nature.

.__.
