{ <br />MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />DECEMBER 18, 2001 <br />Present: Council President Saringer, Council Members Dailey, Kasler, Limpert, <br />McKay, Miller, Nashar, O'Grady <br />Also Present: Mayor Musial, Law Director Gareau, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of <br />Council Seman <br />Council President Saringer called the meeting to order at 8:03 p.m. in Council Chambers, <br />5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in reciting the Pledge of <br />Allegiance to the Flag <br />The minutes of the Council meeting of December 3, 2001 were approved as written. <br />SPECIAL LEGISLATION <br />Resolution No. 2001-159 was introduced and placed on first reading by Councilwoman <br />Kasler on behalf of the entire Council and the Mayor. A resolution commending the <br />public service of Michael R. Gareau, Director of Law for the City of North Olmsted. <br />President of Council Saringer read the resolution in its entirety. The resolution paid <br />tribute to Law Director Michael R. Gareau on his retirement after having served the city <br />with great honor and distinction for twenty-eight years. Michael R. Gareau truly did <br />what few other politicians have done over the course of such long public service <br />careers-he kept his word to the voters. In addition to performing all of the duties of the <br />Director of Law, as provided for in the City Charter, at a level of excellence, he attended <br />almost every meeting of the City Council over the last 28 years. The Council of the Gity <br />of North Olmsted personally and collectively, and on behalf of the Mayor and <br />Administration and all the residents of the city, honors the public service of Michael R. <br />Gareau, and extends its debt of gratitude to him for his long and extraordinary public <br />service to the City of North Olmsted as its elected Director of Law. Councilwoman <br />Kasler moved to suspend the rules requiring three readings and committee review on <br />Resolution No. 2001-159. The motion was seconded by Councilman Nashar and <br />unanimously approved. Councilwoman Kasler moved for adoption. The motion was <br />seconded by Councilman Nashar. Roll call: Mrs. Kasler, yes, commenting that she <br />wished to say to Mr. Gareau and to all in attendance and everyone who knows him that <br />he served the city as he served his family. She sees in him a commitment, a concern, a <br />compassion and a real passion for the law and for the people here in our city. He is the <br />symbol of integrity. He has counseled the members of Council both personally and <br />legally. Although others have known him longer, she feels that she has known him for a <br />very long time and has been honored to serve with him and privileged to call him her <br />
