Council Minutes of 12/18/2001 <br />~, friend. Roll call continued: Mr. Nashar, yes, commenting that he has enjoyed working <br />>~ with Mr. Gareau for the past twelve years. He appreciates Mr. Gareau's advice and <br />wisdom and wishes him the very best. Roll call continued: Mr. McKay, yes, with the <br />comment that he started on Council approximately 20 years ago and was sworn in by <br />Michael Gareau. He has always sought his advice and received guidance and direction, <br />which was appreciated. He wishes him the best in his retirement. Roll call continued: <br />Mr. O'Grady, yes, with a thank you to Mr. Gareau for his good counsel. Roll call <br />continued: Mr. Miller, yes, commenting that Mr. Gareau has held a very high standard of <br />professionalism, integrity and dedication to his job. He appreciates all the efforts Mr. <br />Gareau has given to the city. This evening is a historical passing of the torch. Roll call <br />continued: Mr. Limpert, yes, commenting that he would like to pass along best wishes to <br />Mr. Gareau. H'is father, who was on Council with Mr. Gareau in the beginning, is unable <br />to attend this evening but wishes Mr. Gareau all the best. He is proud to be with Mr. <br />Gareau at the end. Roll call continued: Mr. Dailey, yes, with his well wishes. Mr. <br />Gareau thanked each person as they made their comments. The motion was passed <br />unanimously. Resolution No. 2001-159 adopted. President Saringer thanked Mr. Gareau <br />and noted that they had worked hand-in-hand for many years. Mrs. Saringer presented <br />the resolution to Mr. Gareau as he receivai the applause and recognition of all present. <br />Resolution No. 2001-160 was introduced and placed on first reading by Councilman <br />Miller on behalf of the entire Council and the Mayor. A resolution commending the <br />public service of Janet A. Saringer, President of Council for the City of North Olmsted. <br />President Pro Tem Kasler took the chair and read the resolution in its entirety. The <br />resolution honored and recognized Janet Saringer's distinguished service to the city. She <br />served the city for thirty years in several capacities: Ward II Councilperson for twelve <br />years, Councilperson at Large for ten years, President of Council for eight years. As a <br />member of Council, Janet Saringer sponsored many important pieces of legislation, <br />including consumer-oriented ordinances which protected the health and safety of <br />residents. In addition to her service on City Council, Janet gave her time and talent to <br />many community and service organizations. The Council of the City of North Olmsted <br />personally and collectively, and on behalf of the Mayor and Administration and all the <br />residents of the city, honors the public service of Janet A. Saringer, and extends its debt <br />of gratitude to her for her thirty years of public service to the city first, as a Ward <br />Councilperson, then as a Councilperson at Large, and, finally, as President of City <br />Council. Councilman Miller moved to suspend the rules requiring three readings and <br />committee review on Resolution No. 2001-160. The motion was seconded by <br />Councilman Nashar and passed unanimously. Resident Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey <br />Lane, commented that he had been coming to Council meetings for as long as he has <br />lived in the community. Mrs. Saringer is a very special person in that she has gotten <br />involved in a lot of controversies. She has taken her stand as she believed them to be <br />correct. But she has never gotten personal about it, and he has never seen her get down <br />on anybody personally because they disagreed with her. She is a high-class lady. Mrs. <br />Saringer thanked Mr. Lambert for his comments. Councilman Miller moved for adoption <br />of the resolution. The motion was seconded by Councilman Nashar. Roll call: Mr. <br />Miller, yes, commenting that it has been a great pleasure to serve with Mrs. Saringer. He <br />appreciates the wisdom that she has shared with him aver the years.
