They have had many discussions and always
came to a mutual agreement. She has been very fair as Council President. He wishes her
the very best. Mr. McKay, yes, commenting that Mrs. Beringer was on Council when he
started. They have been through many a meeting together. He wishes her the best in her
retirement. Mr. Dailey, yes, and thanked Mrs. Beringer for her service and wished her
well. Roll call continued: Mr. Limpert, yes; Mr. O'Grady, yes, and thanked Mrs.
Beringer for her many years of service and wished her well on her retirement. Roll call
continued: Mrs. Kesler, yes, commenting that the word to choose for Janet Beringer is a
"friend." A good and honorable and loyal friend. She provided leadership to this
Council, humor at times, and a commitment to her constituents that is unmatched. It
seems to always go back to good family people as she talked about when making her
comments to Michael Gateau. She thanked Mrs. Beringer for her willingness to share the
goodness she has with her family with all of Council, and particularly with her. When
she first came on Council, she considered Mrs. Beringer to be a mentor. She appreciates
that, and wishes her good luck. Mrs. Beringer thanked each person as they made their
comments. The motion was passed unanimously. Resolution No. 2001-1 b0 adopted.
Mrs. Kesler presented the resolution to Mrs. Beringer as she received the applause and
recognition of all present.
President Beringer expressed her appreciation to everyone and made the following
statement:
"First of all, I want to thank the residems for giving me the opportunity to serve the
community for the past 30 years. My objective when I was first elected was
communication with my constituents, and I think I did accomplish that. I enjoyed the
contact with people and helping them to the best of my ability. I want to thank my family
for their encouragemem. It wasn't easy for them, I am sure, when city business was a
priority. City Hall was my second home, but I enjoyed it and I will miss it. I am proud
of my many accomplishments that have made a difference in the lives of the residents of
the city. These accomplishments did not come easy. The friendship of my colleagues
throughout the many years I have served on Council has been my strength. As change
can be difficult, it can also be good. I will always be grateful that our paths have crossed.
My life has been blessed by meeting you and knowing many of you. I wish you all the
best and hope you have a blessed holiday."
President Beringer made the following announcements:
• Resolution 2001-149 and Ordinances 2001-150 and 2001-151 will be passed under
suspension of the rule.
• The next Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2002.
