Council Minutes of 12/18/2001
one inch thick, cut it in half, cut each piece three times, reversed the grain, glued all six
pieces together-put it through the sander 30 times-finished and hand sanded it put it
together, stained it and varnished it three times. Just as much satisfaction as writing a
good brief or winning an important case. I retire with no regrets. I think I have finished
the race and won the trophy. I owe so much to my wife Gayle and my children, Danette,
Kelly, Michael, David and Allison. My wife was at my side assisting me to accomplish a
lifetime career that I enjoyed so much. My children also, although going through the
rigors of public life, never once complained. I have been blessed. I will miss you all but
will never be too faz away. As a take-off on General McArthur when he was recalled by
President Truman from Korea-Old lawyers never die, they just lose their appeal. Thank
you."
Finance Director Copfer made the following comments: 1) To Mrs. Saringer: "I would
like to congratulate you on your yeazs of service as a public servant. I know North
Olmsted is a better place because you've been here. I want to thank you for caring
enough to get involved. I know that does take slot-a commitmerrt. Being a working
mom, as you were, it does take a lot from your family and they sacrifice as well. It has
been a pleasure serving with you."
2) "Mr. Gazeau, it's with much regret that your last Council meeting that we joked about,
which seemed so long ago, is finally here. I can't imagine how it feels to be a part of
such a rich history of making North Olmsted what it is today-seeing it go from a quiet,
rural community to the hustle and bustle of today, especially around this time of year.
The residents of North Olmsted have been very fortunate to have had you here helping in
that process. I personally am grateful to have had an opportunity to serve with you these
last four years. You've taught me much by both your word and example, and it has been
an honor and a privilege. I will miss you and hope you enjoy your life as a private
citizen."
3) She wished all of Council a very blessed Christmas.
Councilwoman Kasler, chairperson of the Intra-Governmental Relations and Legislation;
Long-Range Planning Committee: 1) Per the request of the Mayor, the following re-
appointments are being made:
• Mrs. Kasler moved that Council re-appoint Thomas J. Liggett and Julieanne Nader to
the Architectural Review Board for the period of January 1, 2002 through December
31, 2003. The motion was seconded by Councilman Nashaz and passed unanimously.
• Mrs. Kasler moved that Council re-appoint Raymond Puzzitiello to the Board of
Building Code of Appeals for the period of January 1, 2002 through December 31,
2006. The motion was seconded by Councilman Nashar and passed unanimously.
Councilman O'Grady, chairperson of the Public Safety, Health & Welfare Committee: 1)
The committee met on December 12. Present were committee members O'Grady and
Limpert; Council members Nashar, Dailey and McKay; Finance Director Copfer. Up for
consideration was a new liquor license for Red Robin International, DBA as Red Robin
Gourmet Bwgers and Spirits at 4949 Great Northern Boulevard. This new license is a
'' DS I license, which calls for the sale of spirituous liquor for on-premises consumption
5
