MINITTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />SEPTEMBER 18, 2001 <br />Present: Council President Saringer, Council Members Dailey, Kasler, Limpert, <br />McKay, Miller, Nashar. Councilman O'Grady took his seat at <br />8:25 p.m. <br />Also Present: Mayor Musial, Law Director Gareau, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of <br />Council Seman <br />Council President Saringer called the meeting to order at 8 p.m. in Council Chambers, <br />5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in reciting the Pledge of <br />Allegiance to the Flag. <br />President Saringer commented on the tragic events of the past week by saying that <br />Americans will not let anyone destroy their spirit. She asked for a moment of silence in <br />memory of all the private citizens and safety forces who lost their lives. <br />President Saringer announced the following legislation would be passed under suspension <br />of the rule: Ordinance Nos. 2001-97, 2001-99, 2001-101, 2001-105, 2001-106 and <br />Resolution Nos. 2001-98 and 2001-110. <br />REPORTS <br />Mayor Musial: 1) With regard to the horrific tragedy that occurred on Tuesday, he <br />would like to report that in consultation with the Fire Department and the Police <br />Department various actions were undertaken. The Fire Department continues to be ready <br />to conduct operations, to mitigate the hazardous potential of fire incidents and rescue <br />operations and sudden emergency medical incidents. They were placed on an alert status <br />by the Cuyahoga County Emergency Management Agency in aYrticipation of large <br />numbers of injured being brought into the Cleveland area for medical treatment. No <br />actions resulted as no injured were brought into Cleveland. Additionally, an effort to <br />send aid to New York City was initiated by several members of the Fire Departmem. <br />They secured transportation, manpower, equipment and supplies ready to respond to their <br />fellow firefighters in New York. The State Fire Marshall also prepared to mobilize <br />additional assets to assist in the effort. However, the request to respond has not yet been <br />made by officials in New York. Working in concert with the North Olmsted Police <br />Department and city officials, the North Olmsted Fire Department has maintained a high <br />state of readiness for any situations that may arise within the city whether related or <br />unrelated to the events of last Tuesday.
