Council Minutes of 3/20/2001
,~ Councilman Dailey, chairperson of the Transportation Committee: 1) The Transportation
Committee met on Monday, March 19. Present were committee members Dailey, Kesler,
and O'Grady; all other Council members including Council President Saringer; Safety
Director Jenkins, Finance Director Copfer, Assistant Traffic Engineer Griffith, and
Service Director Bohlmann. The committee discussed Resolution No. 2001-32, a
resolution requesting that the United States Postal Service review the inadequacy of the
parking lot at the North Olmsted Branch Office, which is causing a traffic safety problem
on Lorain Road in the immediate vicinity of the branch office, and, as well, resident and
patron dissatisfaction with the available lot, and declaring an emergency. Discussion of
the resolution found all members of the committee and the ordinance's sponsor,
Councilman Nashar, in agreement that a problem does exist there. Councilman O'Grady
mentioned that by suggesting the solution to the problem we may limit the scope by
which the post office looks for solutions of their own. Councilman Nashar stated that he
had been advised that the adjacent lot Councilman O'Grady referred to has been
purchased by another entity, thus leading the committee to strike the following wording
from the original writing as follows, "...and consider purchasing the vacant lot located
immediately to the west of the branch office for parking lot expansion purposes." The
committee unanimously voted to approve the legislation.
Councilman Nashar, chairperson of the Building, Zoning and Developmental Committee:
1) The committee met on March 13. The Planning Commission
approved this proposal. Mr. Nashar moved to approve the similar use to allow
storage of private and antique vehicles at 6770 Industrial Parkway subject to all the
recommendations of all boards and commissions.
