' Council Minutes of 12!17/2002
- Mr. Boatman said the city unions are in solidarity. The fire fighters will not be
happy until employees who have been laid off are brought back and full staffing is
returned to all departments. If the Fire Dept. is fully staffed and there are no Service
workers to clear streets, the fire fighters can't get to the homes. He suggested one
solution to the financial crisis would be to sell Springvale. Mr. Limpert said he did
not believe there would be a profit in that as $6 million is owed on Springvale.
Marvin Stotz, 6657 Bretton Ridge Drive
^ He read an open letter to the Mayor noting the Mayor's previous accomplishments
but expressing concern and disappoimment over the Mayor's actions in the past year
or so. While none of the Mayor's actions have been proven legally wrong at this
point, the moral questions raised cast a long shadow over the City of North Olmsted.
Actions can be legal but very wrong morally. Is this the way the Mayor wishes to be
remembered? The Mayor can leave a positive, morally responsible legacy to his
family and salvage his reputation by doing the following: 1) Resign the office of
Mayor of the City of North Olmsted immediately. 2) Pay back Springvale Country
Club the disputed amount of preferential food cost. He does not want to begin the
recall process; but, if necessary, he will do so with the help of representatives from
every ward in the city.
Mayor Musial responded that it was a very profound letter. Hopefully, the question
raised about the preferential food prices at Springvale will be answered in the very near
future. He feels his actions taken on other issues were within his responsibility and
judgment. He has accomplished much in the past four years. He appreciates Mr. Stotz's
comments and understand his feelings but feels he has several aspects on his side: he has
discussed it with his wife, and she stands 1000% behind him; his children also support
his remaining in the position and taking the criticism; he is a long-time resident, loves
the city and plans on staying here; he thinks he is right; he thinks God is on his side.
Patricia Deis, 26893 Sweetbriar
^ Believes the Mayor is adept at switching the attention off the issue at hand, which
was asking for his resignation. She is a citizen who cares about the city. What she
has seen is evasion, distraction, no answers, arrogance, indifference and leading this
city dawn a trail to insolvency. No other mayor around us is under investigation by
any ethics commission. We are now the laughing stock of the west side. Unlike
many people who had the good fortune to be born in this city, she chose to live here
because it was a vibrant, healthy, good community in which to raise children. That
was two years ago. In the past two years, this administration has run the city into
insolvency. It has surrounded us in clouds of uncertainty, indecision, invasion. If the
Mayor is not guilty, he should stand up like a man and say "I did not do it," He owes
it to the people who elected him-he is the servant of the residents, they are not his.
President O'Grady called a short recess at 10:30 p.m. President O'Grady reconvened the
meeting at 10:49 p.m.
17
