O'Brien also expressed his gratitude for all the support the nation has
given the safety forces and other impacted people.
8) He attended the ground breaking ceremony in Rocky River for the new municipal
court building. It promises to be an excellern solution to the operation of our justice
system in the western suburbs. Also, it is interesting to note that in the 2001 report from
the Rocky River Municipal Court, North Olmsted alone wrote over 50% of the traffic
tickets. Out of the total traffic case filings, Bay Village had 332, Fairview Park 2,787,
Westlake 4,501, Rocky River 6,359 and North Olmsted had 17,243.
9) With regard to the widening of Claque Road at Lorain Road, the work area is going to
extend about 1,000 feet north, 1,000 feet south, S00 feet east and 500 feet west of the
intersection. Claque Road is being widened to a five-lane thoroughfare-two lanes in
each direction with a center left turn lane. Lorain Road will receive a grind and asphalt
repave, except for the bus stop areas which will receive concrete paving. The pavemem
work is scheduled to begin on May 15. Dominion East Ohio is currernly relocating the
gas line on the southeast side of the intersection. All work is scheduled to be completed
by November 9.
10) The relocation of Brookpazk Road will cause some traffic problems for North
Olmsted. When the eastbound I-480 on-ramp at Grayton Road is closed for 30 days
about mid-June to mid-July, all motorists who wish to get on eastbound I-480 will be
required to travel west on Brookpark Road to Claque Road, turn right on Claque and then
tum right orno the eastbound ramp.
In answer to an inquiry by Councilman Miller, Mayor Musial stag that the city had
meetings with the school administrators last week regarding the termination of some
busing beginning April 8. The administration and Police Department are currently
determining the critical poims and another meeting will be held with school
administrators to arrange for proper procedures.
Law Director Dubelko: 1) In accordance with Council's request, he attended firefighter
collective bazgaining sessions on February 20 and February 28.
2) He presented advice to the Mayor that all expenditures of $15,000 or more should be
submitted to the Board of Control for approval.
3) He has reviewed an arbitration briefreceived from the fire fighters union regarding the
acting officer arbitration matter.
4) On February 22, at the invitation of President of Council O'Grady, he spoke to three
North Olmsted Middle School classes on the subject of individual rights as they affect
middle school students.
5) The Law Department now has computers and hopefully the Internet hook-up will be
completed soon in order to provide a .fast, efficient method of communication with City
Hall.
