'Council Minutes of 1/15/2002 President of Council O'Grady: 1) At the special Council meeting held on January 9, ~;. Michael Gazeau Jr. was appointed to the vacant Council-at-Lazge position. Welcome to Councilman Gazeau. 2) Immediately following the special Council meeting on January 9, a Committee-of-the- Whole meeting was held for the purpose of the reorganization of Council. Present were all members of Council. The following standing committee assignments were made with the first person listed being the chairperson: • Building Zoning and Development Committee-Mr. Nashaz, Mr. McKay, Mr. Gazeau. • Environmental Control Committee-Mr. Limpert, Mr. Dailey, Mrs. Kasler. • Finance Committee-Mr. McKay, Mr. Limpert, Mrs. Kasler. • Intra-Govemmental Relations and Legislation; Long-Range Planning Committee- Mr. Miller, Mrs. Kasler, Mr. Gazeau. • Public Safety, Health 8c Welfare Committee-Mrs. Kasler, Mr. Nashaz, Mr. Miller. • Recreation, Public Pazks & Buildings Committee-Mr. Gareau, Mr. Dailey, Mr. Limpert. • Streets and Drainage Committee-Mr. Limpert, Mr. Nashaz, Mr. Miller. • Transportation Committee-Mr. Dailey, Mr. McKay and Mr. Miller. The President of Council Pro Tem will be Councilman Paul Miller. Other Council commissions: • Ethics Commissio~Mr. O'Grady, Mrs. Kasler, Mr. Limpert. • Cable TV Advisory Boazd-Mr. Nashaz, Mr. Limpert, Mr. Miller. • Recreation Commission Council representative-Mr. Gareau. • Landmarks Commission Council representative-Mr. Dailey. • Housing Council appointments from Council Mr. McKay, Mr. Nashaz. • Faith Communities Forum Council representative-Mr. Dailey. • Fair Housing Review Boazd Council representative-Mr. Gazeau. • North Olmsted Council on Pazatransit Council representatives-Mr. O'Grady in his capacity as President of Council, and Mr. McKay in his capacity as chairperson of the Finance Committee. 3) Over the next few months, he will periodically suggest ideas with an effort of streamlining the procedures of Council and increasing communications between the other bodies of govemment. A memo to Council sent on January 7 requested that all legislative requests be sent to the Law Department through the Clerk of Council's office. Legislative requests should be presented to the Clerk no later than noon on Wednesday of the week preceding the Council meeting. The request should indicate the sponsor of the legislation and whether an emergency clause is required. Also, all legislation prepazed by individual departments which need to be reviewed by the Law Director should be presented to the Clerk at the same time. In addition, it was suggested that the legislative requests generated by Council members be copied to the Mayor.
