'Council Minutes of 1/15/2002
would prefer that the language read 50% increase instead of the current 20% threshold
that is used to determine when gouging is actually occurring.
5) The Mayor has asked that Mr. John Lasko be appointed to the Planning Commission
for a term dated January 1, 2002 to December 31, 2006. Because Mr. Lasko was recently
interviewed for a position on Council, the committee agreed to waive a second interview.
Councilman Miller moved to appoint Mr. Lasko to the Planning Commission for the term
of January 1, 2002 through December 31, 2006. The motion was seconded by
Councilwoman Kasler and passed unanimously.
6) The Mayor has requested the following re-appointments to the Landmarks
Commission: Mr. Paul Barker for the term January 1, 2002 through December 31, 2003;
Mr. George Corell for the term January 1, 2002 through December 31, 2003.
Councilman Miller moved that Mr. Barker be re-appointed to the Landmarks
Commission for the term of 1/1/02 through 12/31/03. The motion was seconded by
Councilwoman Kasler. Roll call: Miller, yes; Kasler, yes; Gateau, yes, with comment
that he had a chance to work with Mr. Barker on the Landmarks Commission, and he
can't think of a better person for the job as Mr. Barker has done an outstanding job. Roll
call continued: Dailey, yes; Limpert, yes; Nashar, yes; McKay, yes. The motion was
unanimously approved. Councilman Miller moved that George Corell be re-appointed to
the Landmarks Commission for the term of 1/1/02 through 12/31/03. The motion was
seconded by Councilman Gateau and passed unanimously.
7) The Mayor has requested that Mrs. Nancy Sergi be considered for a position on the
Board of Zoning Appeals. He will be scheduling an interview with her.
President O'Grady announced that the next Council meeting will be held on Wednesday,
February 6, due to the special election on Tuesday, February 5.
Councilman Gateau moved that Councilman Miller be appointed as the President Pro
Tern for the year 2002. The motion was seconded by Councilwoman Kasler and
unanimously approved. Congratulations to President Pro Tem Miller.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane, is concerned with Council's handling of Ordinance
2002-6. He does not believe salary increase should be passed on emergency. Also, he
believes the legislation should go through three readings before being passed. He would
like to see more input from the administration as to whether the finances can bear salary
increases as the financial responsibility falls squarely on Council's shoulders.
Councilman Limpert said Mr. Lambert brought up some good points but it should be
noted that the overall dollar figure for the Law Department will basically be a wash as far
as the cost to the public. Some positions are going to full-time from part-time, some from
full-time to part time and some are being eliminated. It is not an additional expenditure
of public funds but more of a re-apportioning of the funds within the department.
6
~~ ,~~a~. _. .~~ -.zs_
