Council Minutes 6/17/2003
,~ drawings and then figuring out what to do then. That's why they have been talking about
+" a planning director for 5 years. Maybe in future he won't have to figure out what to do
about historical districts because somebody whose job it is to do it will do it. With
funding the position, it will be filled and hopefully for the better.
Pat Deis, 26893 Sweetbrier.
^ Wondered why the Mayor had demanded an apology from Ms. Cornish when he
hadn't done so with any other residents, people from the recall and even questions
from Council. It is interesting that Ms. Cornish is going to take the hit for all of
those. The Mayor said he was addressing the fact that Ms. Cornish brought items to
the attention of this body and they are wrong.
Paul Barker, 23629 Carriage Lane
^ Regarding tapes or any backup records, he asked the Law Director if they are public
record and could any resident go into the IT Dept. and ask to see an archival tape?
The Law Director said they most probably are. He doesn't know what the city has
and would want to know more information first before he gave a formal response as
to legally whether or not it is a public record or what a resident or anyone else has to
do in order to get a copy of it.
^ Regarding a historical area, the Landmarks Commission has a historical district which
is basically Butternut Ridge. They have buildings and houses throughout the city that
could be plagued, maybe should be. In the historical district in the last five years,
they have lost one of the oldest homes in North Olmsted for the RTA parking lot.
Because of the library, they have lost four homes in the historical district. If we keep
going, there's not going to be a historical district.
Mayor Musial noted the home lost to the Park-N-.Ride lot was an independent home
owned by Carnegie Mgt. They could not reach an agreement with RTA and, since the
home was falling down, they just demolished it. Mr. Barker said the point was that it was
one of the oldest homes in city and the commission questioned what they could do. The
commission only has about $500 a year budget, and it is difficult to do anything as far as
acquiring property, They didn't have much time to think or plan. They looked to the
Mayor, and he said the city didn't have any money. If we are not careful, we are going to
lose it all. The Landmarks Commission is given a charge by the Charter, and at times
they are getting disenchanted with the system because sometimes they are not taken
seriously. They try to do their volunteer job. Things happen and there is nothing they
can do about it. Mayor Musial said he agreed, but was only suggesting that it wasn't
because of the Park-N-Ride that the home was lost.
Don Pangrac, 23470 Sharon Drive
^ Was director of information systems for a medical group practice for 10 years, and
the policy normally done for backups is that you retain no more than three months.
So tapes from October were more than likely overwritten and do not exist. You only
go back three months-grandfather, father, son theory.
16
