Council Minutes of 5/7/2003
county system at one time. He believes Claque Road was on that program, but he
doesn't have information on what year that was scheduled to be done. If the city
wants to widen the road, they would have to pay for that part of it. Operation
resurfacing covers existing pavement--curbs, gutters, sidewalks, etc. Councilman
Dailey encouraged the administration, as soon as a new Service Director is in place,
to look for a way to acquire the money to fix this road. Councilman Miller asked City
Engineer Durbin to contact the County Engineer to see what can be done about
Claque Road and if it is on a maintenance list and when and if it is scheduled. If it is
in the too-distant future, for safety reasons can we be moved up higher after they
come out and evaluate Claque Road?
Mayor Musial informed Mr. Pangrac that he has the names of two individuals who have
agreed to serve on the water rate commission. Also, he has asked that Council chose a
representative.
Janet Saringer, 23336 Stoneybrook Drive.
^ She is quite familiar with Claque Road. The plan to widen and resurface South
Claque Road involved federal, state and city monies. It would have taken out a
number of homes. There were numerous meetings and public hearings to discuss
several different plans. Residents submitted a petition to Council, and they were
agreeable to 3 lanes but not something that was going to increase the speed limit,
permit truck traffic and take out homes. That is why Council voted to not have that
happen. She did, every year, ask if South Claque could be resurfaced. The answer
was no funds. Perhaps Council could appeal to the new County Engineer to see what
he can come up with as far as athree-lane road without disrupting elderly residents.
No one wants truck traffic which will increase crime and permit a higher rate of
speed.
Charles Dial, 27959 Gardenia
^ Referenced a recent newspaper article regarding the recall movement. He wants to
make it clear that he and the other person who are primarily part of the recall effort
are both registered Republicans. As the Mayor has made the inference that Council
members Kasler and Miller are part of this effort, he wants to make it crystal clear
that the recall effort is operating independently. Mrs. Kasler and Mr. Miller are not
and have not been a part of the effort.
Mrs. Kasler said she appreciated Mr. Dial's comments. She will say once again that she
has nothing to do with the recall campaign. She will not be deterred from her job as a
Councilperson, and she hopes the residents appreciate what she is doing.
Mr. Miller noted he has said it before but will say it again that he is not a part of the recall
effort. It is his perception that the people involved with the recall effort are frustrated
with the current administration and have acted completely on their own.
12
