Council Minutes of 5/7/2003
,~, The food at the Senior Center has been wonderful. It has done a great deal for the
'fit seniors. It is bringing people out, old friendships are being renewed, new friendships
are being made. The Senior Center staff is friendly, professional and always quick to
help in any way they can.
^ There is a parking problem at the Senior Center/Community Cabin with not enough
handicapped spaces available.
Mayor Musial said that former Service Director Creadon had issued a memorandum
agreeing that Mr. Dunlap was a fantastic individual and recommended he stay at the
Senior Center. He has no plans to change that decision.
Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane
^ Asked the Mayor if Mrs. Creadon was going to return as the Administrative
Assistant. Mayor Musial said no, that she has completed her term of employment
with the city.
^ Expressed concern about the debris and trash on many city streets and wondered if
the city had a street sweeping machine. There is a lot of gravel on Great Northern
Boulevard neaz the mall and the bridges are particularly dangerous. Mayor Musial
noted that the city does have a street sweeper. Council members agreed that there are
problems with debris, broken up concrete and stones in some areas of the city. A
particularly unsightly area is Clague Road at the I-480 exit.
Don Pangrac, 23470 Sharon Drive.
Agreed that the I-480 exit at Clague Road was a disgrace. There is debris scattered
everywhere. He believes it is the state's responsibility to clean it up. If that does not
happen, he will get a group of citizen volunteers together to clean up that area.
^ At 7:30 this evening, BFI still had not picked up the trash on his street. This is
getting to be routine-BFI doesn't service his area until late in the afternoon and
sometimes not until the next day. He would like the city to contact BFI. Mr. Dailey
said that last week yard waste was not picked up until Thursday. He sent a memo to
the administration and asked the Mayor to find out if BFI has changed their policy on
yard waste so residents can be informed when to put it out. Mr. Nashar said he called
BFI about this issue and was told that they had a lot of breakdowns on their trucks.
They promised to have it cleared up in the next week or so.
^ Raised the question of the poor condition of south Clague Road and asked if the
county has plans to repair the road since it is a county road. The Mayor and Council
agreed that is an issue that has been discussed for many years. In 1998, the city put
down an asphalt coating, and it has held up well for the amount of traffic on the road.
However, another layer of asphalt would only add to the problems with drainage.
When it rains, the sidewalks are covered in water. Councilman McKay said that there
had been a plan to fix the road and change it to a four-lane road. However, the plan
was rejected by the residents who preferred it be a three-lane road. The county
backed away from the plan as they will not fund the project unless it is a four-lane
road. City Engineer Durbin said that Clague at one item was on the county system.
Once it becomes annexed, it no longer is a county road, it is a city street. The county
used to have an operation resurfacing program to resurface roads that had been on the
11
