Council Minutes of 4/15/2003
the security issue hopefully by early summer, with perhaps seeing some infrastructure
changes by August or September.
^ The administration is looking to revise the current vending and game situation up at
the Rec Center. The game machines seem to be outdated. Also, the games don't
accept dollaz bills. It's the opinion of the Rec Commission that, if we bring in some
fresh games and dollar bill changers, people may use those more and we can actually
use that as an increase in revenue to address many of the issues at the Rec Center.
^ Anew phone system is in place. The system allows for routing the calls, voice mail
and more efficierrt operation up at the Rec Center. Patrons will be able to access
information through a phone number regarding such things as cancellation of softball
games or other necessary program information.
^ Combination locks are now for sale at cost at the Rec Center. Hopefully, that will
possibly prevent some of the problems.
^ The staff at the Rec Center is moving along under the direction of our new R~reation
Commissioner. He has done an excellent job and is friendly and courteous. He is
straight-forward, and he recognizes the problems and has vowed to fix them. One of
the things he encouraged our employees to do was to get to know the customers
better. He has encouraged employees to work on customer service and to try to
improve the face of North Olmsted at the Rec Center.
^ One issue that the Recreation Commissioner has been working on is a crackdown on
fighting and profanity up at the Rec Center among youths who attend the various
events. These unruly youths were removed from the facility and they won't be
allowed back if they aze going to continue to engage in that kind of behavior.
^ The possibility of using afenced-in area on the recreation grounds for anoff-leash
dog run.
Councilman Miller commented that the clarity of the new phone system at the Rec Center
was very good as well as the information provided to patrons. As to the video games, he
cautioned that the issue of violent games had come up several years ago. Although he
agrees the outdated games should be replaced, that should be done cautiously to avoid
strongly violent games
Finance Director Copfer noted that any work done at the Recreation Center with
borrowed monies would have to be for capital improvements. It would have to be a
project with a useful life of two to five years. The walking path and exercise benches
would qualify.
AUDIENCE PART~IPATION
Dennis Lambert, 2505'1 Cazey Lane.
^ Spoke about the Westshore cities proposal for acall-in ceYrter at St. John's Westshore
Hospital. He is concerned about having acall-in center at a particular hospital. Our
community is served by three hospitals: Westshore, Southwest General and Fairview.
To give one particular hospital that edge can very easily put them in the driver's seat
as to what they want to do in the future with the insured providers and how that will
impact people. It is very important, as a municipality representing different people
10
. .~ .,N~.~ ~~ .,.,y.,~„_ . _..
