Council Minutes of 4/1/2003
phone operation, this has to fly. Councilman Dailey moved for adoption. The motion
was seconded by Councilman Limpert and passed unanimously. Resolution No. 2003-57
adopted.
Ordinance No. 2003-58 was introduced and placed on first reading by Mayor Musial. An
ordinance establishing a new and revised city salary range ordinance to create the
positions of Nutrition Aide 1 and Nutrition Aide 2, and authorize pay scales for said
positions, and declaring an emergency. Councilman Gareau moved for suspension of the
rules requiring three readings and committee review. The motion was seconded by
Councilman Miller and passed unanimously. Patricia Deis, 26893 Sweetbrier Drive
asked what Nutrition Aide 1 and Nutrition Aide 2 were. Mrs. Kesler answered that
Human Resources Director Copeland explained to Council the grant requires that the city
have people qualified to attend to the quality of the food that is being served pursuant to
that grant. The grant also pays for the hiring of these two part-time employees who will
work less than 20 hours per week in total. Councilman Gareau moved for adoption. The
motion was seconded by Councilman Miller and passed unanimously. Ordinance No.
2003-58 adopted.
Resolution No. 2003-59 was introduced and placed on first reading by Councilman
McKay on behalf of the entire Council and the Mayor. A resolution in support of the
United States Armed Forces engaged in Operation Iraqi Freedom, for the brave men and
women who provide military service to this country, who deserve our total support and
commitment, with respect and recognition of their sacrifice to protect this nation, and
declaring an emergency. Councilman McKay moved for suspension of the rules
requiring three readings and committee review. The motion was seconded by
Councilman Nashaz and passed unanimously. Councilman Dailey moved for adoption,
and the motion was seconded by Councilman McKay. Roll call: Dailey, yes, with
comment that military personnel aze people that we take for granted. They're always
there, but you don't recognize them until you need them. He would like to not only
commend these people that aze there now but those that have served, those that are
serving, and those that are going to come down the road and will serve. Roll call
continued: McKay, yes; Limpert, yes; Miller, yes, with comment. He recently attended a
retirement dinner of a fire fighter. It was interesting to hear the fire fighter say that he
feels that the people in the Armed Forces are his heroes. That was quite an accolade and
a recognition of the people, both home and abroad, who are in the Armed Forces. Roll
call continued: Nashaz, yes; Kesler, yes; Gazeau, yes. The motion passed unanimously.
Resolution No. 2003-59 adopted. (President O'Grady and Councilman Limpert have sons
currently serving in the military. Also, many of our residents have children serving in the
military, and some are serving in the war in Iraq.)
Resolution No. 2003-60 was introduced and placed on first reading by Mayor Musial. A
resolution authorizing the Mayor of the City of North Olmsted to terminate the contract
between the city and Carron Asphalt Paving, Inc., for the construction of new tennis
courts at North Olmsted Park, and declaring an emergency.
13
