rt,
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
APRIL 20, 2004
Present: President of Council O'Grady, Council Members Dailey, Gareau, Kasler,
Limpert, McKay, Miller, Nashar
Also Present: Mayor Musial, Law Director Dubelko, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of
Council Seman
President O'Grady called the meeting to order at 8:05 p.m. in Council Chambers, 5200
Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio.
Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of
Allegiance.
The minutes of the Council meeting of Apri16, 2004 were approved as written.
President O'Grady announced the following legislation would be passed under
suspension of the rules: second reading, Ordinances 2004-63, 2004-67; first reading,
Ordinances 2004-72, 2004-73, Resolutions 2004-75, 2004-76, 2004-77, 2004-78
REPORTS
Mayor Musial: 1) A successful grand opening of the new library was held last Sunday.
Over 2,000 people visited the library in a three-hour period. There were 2,066 items
checked out. North Olmsted has the honor of housing the first circulating library in the
Western Reserve. In 1829, Charles Olmstead of Connecticut donated 500 books, and
they arrived in Lenox Township by oxcart. Hence, the name Oxcart Library. In return,
the name Lenox was changed to Olmstead, which is now North Olmsted and Olmsted
Falls. There are still some books that remain from the original 500, and they are housed
in a glass case in the new library. The new library is going to instill a new measure of
interest in the city. It's going to provide a milestone in the change of the culture and the
aesthetic activity in North Olmsted. Thanks to Council, who was very cooperative with
regards to the building of the new library. Thanks also to the residents who supported the
bond issue
2) Last year during the Memorial Day ceremony, some veterans noted that there was no
monument in the park to honor WWI and WWII veterans. He is announcing that a
memorial is being donated to the city. Mark Kacirek is donating the monument, Jack
Boss will supply the base, Kotecki will do the inscription and Brian Zergott will supply
the landscaping. This is a very kind and generous donation to the city. It has been
learned that the existing middle monument does list 19 names of residents who were
killed in combat during WWII. The monument will be dedicated to all those who served
in WWI and WWII, and there will also be another area to recognize some of the more
recem conflicts such as the Persian Gulf and Iraq. Also, an antique brass plate will be
installed on the existing monument listing the 19 names of citizens who were killed in
WWII. Hopefully, it will all be complete by this Memorial Day.
,~.,
