Council Minutes of 3/3/2Q04
13. When the budget hearings are over, it will be known whether or not City Council
'~' was able to cobble together the money that NOSO needs for this program. Mr.
Saunders said he understood.
Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane
In response to the soccer field situation, he suggests that the city could commit to
have the Fire Dept. pumper come in and water the fields when necessary as a
temporary solution.
Bill Kelley, 4161 Canterbury Road
• As chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission, he announced that there will
be an ice show at the Rec Center on May 21 through the 23. Everyone is encouraged
to attend. Ticket prices are $10 for individuals and $8 for students and seniors. This
was a successful show last year.
• With regard to the water line proposal for the BartonBradley fields, it should be
noted that bringing a water line to property will
This is something that has been needed for m
community use that park. He would like Council to think
about the impressions that other people can take back with them when they come and
visit our city. Last year, 85 teams came to the NOSO Cup. They play at the fields,
and then take those impressions home with them and tell other people. If they come
to pristine fields, they're going to take those impressions home and other people may
want to come here also. Also our residents will have a sense of pride because of the
new soccer fields. Mr. Friedel is donating over $15,000 worth of field improvements,
which will improve the value of the property. The 150 soccer camp participants will
bring in a lot of money to the community.
Linda Markusic, 5969 McKenzie Road
• She is the registrar for NOSO and is currently registering children for the spring
outdoor session. It is important to let Council know the comments she hears from
citizens. The majority of people very much support doing whatever it takes to have
better fields, and better sources of enjoyment for their children, not only at
BartonBradley but at all the fields. They want to support whatever the city and
NOSO can do to get this accomplished.
Ron Koch, 5972 Barton Road
• He performs maintenance at the soccer fields and takes care of the equipment. A lot
of people use the fields during the day for picnics or for playgrounds. There are
constant questions about the state of the rest rooms and the lack of water fountains.
NOSO is spending about $28,000 a year on the fields, but we are losing ground as we
have about 60% erosion on each of the seven fields. Steps need to be taken to correct
this problem.
8
