Council Minutes of 10/4/2005
citizens before the need is greatest when we get to the cold weather and the high heating
costs.
The Senior Center will be hosting its annual "Garage Sale" this coming Saturday,
October 8, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please stop by and support this Senior Center fund-
raising event. SITES student, Brian Cancian, will be teaching computer basics to seniors
every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the month of October. Interested seniors should
contact the Senior Center to sign up.
Personnel & Administrative Services (Human Resources):
On September 22, two Department employees attended the annual Workers'
Compensation University and attended various classes including case law and legislative
update, controlling costs, preventing lost time claims, heath-care update and how the
bureau fights workers' comp fraud. (This is an annual series of meetings conducted by
the Bureau of Workers' Compensation at no cost to the city.)
Planning:
The Sun News will be running a city profile feature on North Olmsted in its
November 10 edition in its Showcase of Homes section. This edition will be distributed
to over 57,000 homes in the Westshore and will be a great opportunity to highlight the
City's new programs and initiatives related to economic and community development.
At the public meeting regarding the Crocker/Stearns project held on September
26, residents were invited to provide insights and get information on the project. We are
continuing to collect some of those insights from our residents and will continue to accept
the comment sheets until this Friday.
Recreation Plan. Due to the emergency roof repairs at the Recreation Center, the
funding for the first phase of the Recreation plan was diverted. The plan will move
forward, but will not begin until January 2006.
Safety:
The Building Department is working very closely with Carnegie Mgt. and with
Target. Target had their ribbon cutting ceremony today. They are a nice addition to the
City of North Olmsted. We're very happy to have them. Additionally, they have
demonstrated already that they're going to be very good corporate citizens. 'They've
donated to needy charities in our city and also to the Westside Catholic Center in
Cleveland.
Radios for the Fire Dept. are being furnished through the FEMA grant. Assistant
Chief Robertson returned from his work in Louisiana. He worked directly with the needy
in Slidell, Louisiana, and he worked in New Orleans. An additional benefit to the City of
North Olmsted, he was able to look at their disaster preparedness plans and then evaluate
how the planning compared to the practice.

2
