Council Minutes of 10/4/2005
The contract for the HVAC units for the tennis area of the Recreation Center were
approved by the Board of Control. We have the Recreation Center's maintenance crew
back-filling behind the curbs at the Recreation Center's parking lot.
Service:
We continue to work on drainage and flooding. Unfortunately, during the rain
event of September 26, we had back-ups at two to three houses on Williamstown and
Hyannis Port. Each time we find something we're going back and we're looking for the
causes, and we're finding them. Things are getting better. But this was an issue that was
probably 40 years in the making, and it's going to take us some time to get it straight.
We did find blocked sewers that run between Driscoll and Sweetbriar on the Pine School
property. We've continued to find and correct those issues as we continue to do
maintenance such as weed whipping in the ditches, etc.
We are making manning and priority adjustments in the WWTP Dept. in an effort
to get our trucks out into the city to take care of cleaning the sanitary and storm sewers.
The areas identified as trouble spots have been taken care of, now we are going through
on a systematic level of cleaning to hit each area. The significant clean out of the Hall
ditch was good for the Deerfield area. The jet trucks will be used to clean out the sewers
in Deerfield in the very near term.
The ditch crew has been clearing trees, limbs, cleaning and weed whipping the
following large ditches: Burns Rd., Porter Rd., Decker Rd., Delmere to Gessner Rd.,
Bradley Rd. leaf dump, Timber Cove to Root Rd., ditch north of Top's Store, St.
Brendan's ditch, Moen Dr. ditch.
Westlake Mayor Clough has said that his Service Department would clean
downstream from the Ehle ditch/retention basin at Blossom. This will aid considerably
the conveyance of storm water from the Blossom area.
Service workers repaired and cleaned the storm main on south Porter Road. We
have replaced culvert pipes and re-graded roadside ditches on North Park, Martin, Burns,
Canterbury, Walter and MacKenzie. Storm and sanitary crews have been working
everyday for the past six weeks locating test tees, performing flow tests, cleaning and
televising laterals and helping residents solve problems at their particular properties.
Adjustments are being made in the Wastewater Systems Department to begin
keeping the jet truck out cleaning sanitary sewers daily beginning next week. The
cleaning will begin in the Pine Ridge development followed by televising. Likewise,
adjustments are being made among sewer crews to start a full time crew cleaning storm
sewers beginning tomorrow in the Deerfield development. These two aggressive sewer
cleaning operations will run in addition to all other sewer maintenance efforts Service
and Systems crews have been and continue to perform.

3
