~~ ,
Council Minutes of 9!6/2005
those who are recuperating in US military hospitals will continue till Veterans' Day, November
11. Browns or Indians logos on the t-shirts would probably be well appreciated. Care packages
with microwave popcorn or other store-bought snacks would also be welcome. If interested in
donating, please drop your items with Director John Dailey in our Department of Community
Life Services. Anything that we gather in excess of what is needed by our troops, will be
donated to the needy in our local area. Thanks also to our partners in this effort, the USO and
our North Olmsted VFW Post 7647.
Departments:
1. Human Resources /Community Life Services:
The Department of Human Resources in conjunction with the Senior Center staff signed up 19
residents for the "Heat the Country Day." All that signed up were approved. The "Heat the
Country Day" is sponsored by Cuyahoga County and will provide routine furnace checkups to
seniors that meet the income guidelines. This is the initial year of the program and with the
success the county hopes to continue it into the future.
2. Planning Department:
Design Guidelines. Draft Design Guidelines for commercial development have been completed
and will be discussed at the upcoming Planning Commission meeting. Following Planning
Commission and staff review, these guidelines will be presented to City Council.
CDBG. The CDBG Public Hearing was well attended on August 25th. The Committee will
meet this Thursday to finalize their recommendations to City Council. The Committee is
strongly considering ADA improvements to North Olmsted Park for the City's Competitive
Municipal Grant project and applying for a third year of Exterior Maintenance Grant Program
funds.
Crocker-Stearns. Residents will have an opportunity to give their comments regarding the
Crocker-Stearns noise barriers at a Public Hearing on Monday, September 26th at 7:00 p.m.
Front Entrance. With passage of 2005-117, the City will continue its work with Middough
Consulting in an effort to move forward with the front entrance project yet this year.
3. Safety:
Springvale did have to close the course a couple of day due to the extreme rains. Without the
drainage improvements that have been made, the course would have been down much longer.
The Recreation Center's indoor pool roof design has been promised to be completed this week.
Remember that we will not reopen the pool till we have a better idea of when all necessary
repairs to the roof will be made.
The Seasonal Property Maintenance inspector has been changed to a part time inspector. This
has increased the length of the season in which he can work to upgrade property conditions.
Also, pending council's action on revising our city codes, we have stopped citing residences
where trash receptacles are visible from the roadway.
2
