Service: <br />Sandy Ridge Concrete Replacement Program: <br />Concrete work on Sudbury Drive and Bristol Lane is complete. <br />Drive aprons and pavement box outs aze being formed and poured to complete Fairfax. <br />Darby Lane is 75% complete. <br />North Park Estates Concrete Replacement Program: <br />Concrete work on Camellia Lane and Nandina Drive is complete. Lawn restoration has begun. <br />Concrete work on the east side of Azalea is complete and aprons will begin on the west side this week. <br />Pavement excavation is scheduled for this week on Gardenia Drive and Oring Road <br />Asphalt Program: <br />Asphalt pavements have been recycled at North Olmsted Park, North Park Drive, Florence Ave. and <br />Lucille Dr. The Senior Center parking lot has been sealed. Asphalt leveling course has been installed <br />on all recycled pavements and most of the parking lot. <br />The existing concrete pavement on Byron Drive and the concrete portion of Lucile have been gutter <br />ground and the seal coat and asphalt leveling course installed. <br />Manhole, catch basin, monument and water valve castings are being adjusted in preparation of the <br />asphalt surface course on all pavements. <br />Pavement Marking Program: <br />Final asphalt wearing course installation was begun last week and, weather permitting, will be <br />completed this week. <br />Fuel Price and Availability: <br />Prices for fuel are up considerably from the beginning of the year. Premium unleaded has risen from <br />$1.654 in January to $2.419. Premium Diesel is up similarly from $1.653 to our last invoice of $2.063 <br />in July. Our overall spending for fuel is up $63,502 from this time last year. We are presently <br />projecting $103,000 over last years spending for fuel if today's rate remains constant. Our supplier <br />calls to warn us in advance of increases. Availability has not been a major problem. Fuel is deliver <br />within two days rather than the same day service we are accustomed to. We are watching this. <br />2) The Mayor made the following comments on the rain storm of August 20: "With regard to the <br />rain event of August 20, I wanted to highlight for the members of Council and for our citizens <br />my administration's actions before, during and after that storm. Additionally, I will highlight <br />some of the actions that are being taken now and will continue to be taken in the future as we <br />move to address and reduce the potential for damage of people's homes. First, I will tell you that <br />this was an incredibly unusual rain event. This is to advise you of my administration's actions <br />before, during, and after the storm of August 20. Additionally, I will highlight the actions that <br />we continue to take now, in order to reduce the potential for damage to your home in the future. <br />First, I will present you with the details of the rain event. On Saturday, August 20t", the City <br />experienced a very severe thunderstorm in this area. We had a rain front come through at about <br />noon, then the second major downpour of the day at approximately 4:25 pm, dropped 3.5" of <br />rain in 25 minutes. Approximately one and a half hours later, a third band dropped another inch <br />of rain. Of the 6" total rainfall for that day, approximately 4.5" fell in less than two hours.
