He asked whether there will be any repairs on the area to get
us through 2006. Mayor O'Grady said that information would be supplied by the Service
Director upon his return from vacation. Councilman Barker commented that property
maintenance was a big issue with him, and he has had very good success with the
inspectors' work in Ward 2. They aze doing a very good job, and he commends them.
Mayor O'Grady commented that the property maintenance program continues to evolve
and will become much more formalized. It is anticipated that the entire city will be
inspected over afour-year period.
Councilman Miller presented several items to the Mayor:
• He repeated a request for the cost estimates for the moving of the church from
Barton Road. If this issue comes before Council again, he would like to have
"working numbers" for future decisions. Mayor O'Grady said that information
would be provided.
• He requested information on the Boazd of Control meeting with regard to the
North Pazk Estates.
• On a safety issue, Mr. Miller noted last year he mentioned that, right after the
Homecoming parade, several people were assisting others in wheelchairs to cross
Mill Road in the Giant Eagle azea. The curb was very high on the north side of
Mill Road, and it was a dangerous situation as it was difficult to maneuver the
wheelchairs over the curb. He had asked that a crosswalk be considered for that
area but has not heard back on that request. Although he realizes it is too late for
this year, he would request that an auxiliary police officer be made available to
provide assistance this year.
• He noted the Mayor had indicated the addition of two fire fighters. This year,
Council budgeted for at least one additional or one replacement police officer.
What is the status on that? Mayor O'Grady answered that there is no attempt at
this time to hire an additional police officer. There is no police officer that we
would be replacing with that hire. The issue is still being discussed with the
Police Dept. through the Director of Public Safety. However, the city has done a
review of the number of police officers per citizen on the Westshore. It appeazs
that the City of North Olmsted is already high. He does not think the Police Dept.
has done enough to justify the hiring of an additional officer above their current
manning. At this time, there is no intention on his part to move forward until
4
