Council Minutes of 8/2/2005
are working on creating cd's of the Plan for public distribution as well as an
updated link on the City website.
• Interviews for the Recreation Plan consultant will be held on August 10. Once a
consultant is selected, the administration will come back to Council to discuss the
scope of work and associated budget.
• The City administration has provided detailed comments to Middough
Engineering on concerns that were raised regarding the front entrance project.
Council's reservations were well founded, and that is being pursued aggressively.
The addendum to the legislation will be available to Council for the committee
meeting next week where the administration will be able to provide a detailed
read from Middough on what they see as their required cost and the justification
for that cost.
• In the Exterior Maintenance Grant Program, we have authorized work for three
roof replacements, and a fourth authorization from the County is imminent. The
City has enough remaining funds in the grant to identify and work with
potentially a fifth homeowner.
6) Safety Department
• The Building Dept. is moving forward with the property maintenance
inspections. One common issue that is being raised and the administrations thinks
Council should take a hard look at it again is the number of people who are being
cited because their trash cans, which are on the side of the house, are visible from
the roadway. It seems to him that the concern was the trash cans be serviceable-
that they be sealed properly and that there not be annoyance and hazard to
neighbors with things blowing around. Our codes, however, require the trash
cans be shielded from the road. Perhaps that is an issue that the Council would
want to take back into committee and take a fresh look at to see if that truly was
their intent. Many of the residents that have received citations are saying they
have had their trash receptacles in the same place for decades and there has never
been a hazard or problem.
• The Fire Dept. is moving forward with the hiring of two additional fire fighters as
was planned.
• Springvale ballroom revenues are running about 14% over forecast. Golf course
revenues are up this year over last year but below the forecast for 2005. It does
appear that the 90 degree+ days have had an impact on afternoon play. The
course, however, is in spectacular shape and additional improvements will be
made. We are also increasing our efforts at the visibility of the Springvale
Ballroom and Golf Course by placing pictures on the web page and on our
television station.
• The Police Dept. K-9 Unit will have a dog show from the three K-9 officers and
handlers at the Pet Land at 4670 Great Northern Blvd. this Saturday at 1 p.m.
Come meet Rico, Boyco, and Timo as they demonstrate their capabilities.
Attendees can have their picture taken with the K-9 officers.
7) Service Department
• Sandy Ridge concrete replacement program, the concrete has been placed on the
south side of Sudbury. After a week of cure time, the bottom half of the aprons
will be replaced and allowed to cure before excavation begins on the north side of
3
