Council Minutes of 5/17/2005 <br />was seconded by Councilman Nashar and passed with four yes votes and one abstention <br />by Mr. Dailey due to a financial interest. <br />3) Mr. Duane Limpert was interviewed for the position of Safety Director. He is a fine <br />man who has been on Council for many years and has a long family history in North <br />Olmsted. He will truly be missed on Council. <br />Councilman Gareau made a motion to approve the nomination of Mr. Limpert to the <br />position of Safety Director for a term commencing June 1, 2005 and ending December <br />31, 2005. The motion was seconded by Councilman Nashar and passed with four yes <br />votes and one abstention by Mr. Limpert due to a financial interest. <br />4) The committee interviewed ten quality candidates for the Council-at-Large position <br />created by the resignation of Mrs. Kasler. It was a good mix of people-a number of <br />young, eager candidates and some experienced candidates who know the city well. <br />President Kennedy opened the floor for nominations. Councilman McKay nominated <br />Ronald Tallon. Councilman Dailey nominated Paul Barker. Councilman Gareau <br />nominated Ralph Bohlmann. With no further nominations, President Kennedy closed <br />nominations. Roll call: Mr. Dailey said Mr. Barker; Mr. Gareau said Mr. Bohlmann; Mr. <br />Limpert said Mr. Bohlmann; Mr. McKay said Mr. Tallon; Mr. Nashar said Mr. Tallon. <br />Result of the vote was Mr. Ron Tallon, two votes; Mr. Paul Barker, one vote; Mr. Ralph <br />Bohlmann, two votes. No person received a majority, and the floor was open for <br />nominations again. Councilman Dailey nominated Ron Tallon. Councilman Limpert <br />nominated Paul Barker. With no further nominations, President Kennedy closed <br />nominations. Roll call: Mr. Dailey said Mr. Tallon; Mr. Gareau said Mr. Tallon; Mr. <br />Limpert said Mr. Barker; Mr. McKay said Ron Tallon; Mr. Nashar said Ron Tallon. <br />Result of the vote was Mr. Tallon, four votes; Mr. Barker, one vote. Mr. Ron Tallon was <br />appointed Councilman-at-Large. <br />Mr. Tallon came forward and was sworn-in as Councilman-at-Large by Law Director <br />Dubelko. Mr. Tallon was congratulated and recognized by members of Council, <br />members of the administration and all present. <br />Councilman Tallon took his seat at 8:20 p.m. <br />REPORTS <br />Mayor O'Grady: 1) Sincere condolences to Councilman Paul Miller and his family on <br />the passing of his father. We will keep him in our thoughts. <br />2) Congratulations to Councilman Tallon. It's good to be working with him. <br />3) Week of May 2: <br />• Celebrated the National Day of Prayer by attending the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast at <br />Sts. Peter and Paul Church, then another prayer ceremony at the Church on the Rise. <br />• Met with the Mayors and Managers Association in Hudson where again the issue was <br />our state legislature's assault on local government funds. <br />4) Week of May 9: <br />• Met with Assistant Fire Chief Robertson on the joint dispatch issue. <br />• Attended the annual retirement dinner for the North Olmsted City Schools. <br />• Met with the Westshore Council of Governments to discuss the joint dispatch center <br />and senior transportation. Director Don Copeland gave a very good presentation on <br />senior transportation. <br />2 <br />
