Council Minutes 4/5/2005
brief comment to reiterate his comments from earlier this evening that we find
someone from the east side of the town to be appointed to that commission as soon as
possible. Roll call continued: McKay; yes; Nashar, yes. The motion passed
unanimously.
• Councilman Limpert moved to suspend Council Rule 58 to dispense with the
interview for Ms. Vera Brewer for an appointment to the Human Resources Advisory
Board. The motion was seconded by Councilman Miller and passed unanimously.
Councilman Limpert moved that Council approve the appointment of Ms. Vera
Brewer to the Human Resources Advisory Board for the term of 1/1/OS to 12/31/09.
The motion was seconded by Councilman Miller and passed unanimously.
Councilman Miller, chairperson of the Public Safety, Health & Welfare Committee: 1)
The committee met again this evening for final discussion of a liquor license for True
North Energy, DBA True North 343, located 25199 Lorain Road. This is a C1, C2
carryout, basically beer and wine until 1 a.m. It had been held for a verification of the
address. The committee voted unanimously to not object to a liquor permit for True
North Energy. Councilman Miller moved that Council not object to the liquor permit for
True North Energy, 25199 Lorain Road. The motion was seconded by Councilman
Gareau. Roll call: Miller, no; Gareau, yes; Dailey, yes; Limpert, yes; Nashar, yes;
McKay, no. The motion passed with four yes votes and two no votes.
Councilman Miller, Council's representative to the Recreation Commission: 1) The
Recreation Commission met last evening at the Recreation Center. The commission was
given the long-awaited good news that the Clague Park walk path should be completed
within two weeks. This will connect the two ends of the parking lot and basically go
behind the backstops and over around to the playground area. This has been requested by
various Councilpersons as well as residents in the area. It's difficult to push strollers or
walk that area without climbing curbs, tree roots, swales that may be wet, etc. It is a
much needed project and should be completed in two weeks.
2) There was discussion about the paving of North Olmsted Park roadway. The
commission is encouraging the administration to address that issue and resolve it because
it does present a danger. They were advised at a previous commission meeting that at
one time there was discussion presented to basically place an island with aturn-around
near the bottom of the Senior Center parking area where it meets that roadway. That
would provide more safety far children and generally park users and it would no longer
be acut-through. The Recreation Commission urges something to be done in light of the
dangers that cut-through roadway presents.
3) The Recreation Commission approved a plan requested by the Safety Director and the
Recreation Commissioner for a recreation use survey. There has not been one done in
approximately 10 years, and the changing demographics of the city indicate that there
may be different results compared to the last survey. To get a better handle on what the
residents want for recreation services, the committee approved the plan to put out a
recreation use survey and also a feasibility study as to the use of the Recreation building
itself-whether it would make more sense to tear down, expand, continue patching,
whatever the case may be. A team of professionals will be brought in to evaluate the
feasibility of the continued use of the Rec Center.
7
