Council Minutes of 3/15/20fl5
School. He comes to the fire house with paramedic certification, 240 hours of firefighter
training, atwo-year associates degree in fire science, and a fire safety inspection
certification. He served five years part-time with the Willoughby Hills Fire Department.
3) On March 14, the annual meeting of the Tax Incentive Review Board was held. The
board reviewed all of the tax abatement issues and indicated that they are in conformity.
4) At the Recreation Center, the hockey board advertising program has begun with IT&T,
Clorox, Giant Eagle, Hampton Inn, Applebee's and Donato's placing ads on the hockey
boards. This is a project that is designed to raise money for recreation activities, and it
looks to be an extremely good program with continued growth as space has been sold for
next year.
5) Today, several city officials attended a lunch with the staff of the mall to meet the new
manager, Rob Clark. Many areas of mutual interest were discussed and reviewed and
several ideas for future partnering unfolded. Future meetings will be scheduled to bring
the whole North Olmsted community together with the mall, including the public and
private schools and community service groups.
6) Requested appointments to boards and commissions are as follows: Jason Werner to
Architectural Review Board, Donna Sabo to BBCA, Gary Conaway to the Planning
Commission; reappointments of Paul Barker, Betty Lord and Maryellen Davis to the
Landmarks Commission. One appointment remains to be made and that is to the Cultural
Activities Commission.
7) The North Olmsted soccer organization has been recognized and earned top honors for
athletic field maintenance. They received a banner and a certificate to commemorate their
achievement.
Law Director Dubelko: 1) Recognized Mr. Ernie Zoldesy, a former manager of the North
Olmsted Municipal Bus Line, who was in the audience. With regard to NOMBL and the
legislation that is before City Council tonight, he has been involved in the negotiations
with RTA since last November regarding either the renewal of the operating agreement
or the acquisition. The city has fought a tremendous fight regarding this matter, and it
has shown us at our best because we have all worked together with a common purpose to
try to preserve our bus line or at least to be treated fairly. He commended many people
for the efforts they made: members of the administration, members of the legislative
body, and union employees who supported the efforts. He particularly singled out
Congressman Dennis Kucinich who truly did what a representative for his district should
do on a matter that affects his district so greatly. His efforts and those of his legislative
aide, Marty Gelfand, are appreciated. Also, he recognized the Mayor, Duane Limpert
and union president Bob Whiting for the efforts they made. He believes it was the
Mayor at his best. They truly fought the good fight. Thank you to all the members of
Council for their support. Thank you to the members of the city negotiating team:
Finance Director Carrie Copfer for her good financial advice along the way, Service
Director Dan Driscoll, alternate Scott Uhas who provided technical information, and
General Mgr. Tom Terbrack. He wanted to publicly thank Tom Terbrack who is the
consummate professional municipal official who has served the City of North Olmsted
with complete dedication for over 30 years and is getting ready to retire at the end of this
month. He certainly provided the city with excellent service, and his retirement is
something that he should be able to look forward to with eagerness and look back
2
