Council Minutes of 1/4/2045
has, has been in two accidents. The Expedition is no longer being built with a truck
frame, and it's a good thing that the Expedition that we did have was built with a
truck frame in light of the fact that it has been in two accidents. This new vehicle will
be a base package and not an upgraded model. There will be a passing-down of
vehicles to include the Expedition going to be used as possibly a DARE vehicle. The
DARE vehicle, which is a van, possibly being passed down into the Service
Department or for other police purposes. The issue of painting of a new DARE
vehicle was brought up, and the committee was advised that the costs of that are
minimal and the work is done in spare time by Fleet Maintenance. The committee
unanimously recommended approval and passage under suspension of the rule.
• Resolution 2004-204, a resolution authorizing application for and acceptance of a
direct grant from the United States Department of Homeland Security in the amount
up to $50,000. It was explained that this is an application for equipment valued up to
$50,000, and there will be no financial participation by the .city. This will be a
straight grant, whatever the dollar amount or value of the items becomes. The
committee unanimously recommended approval and passage under suspension of the
rule.
• Ordinance 2004-197, an ordinance authorizing the Director of Public Service to
request proposals from professional land surveyors for land surveying services for the
new Fire Station No. 2 project, further authorizing the Mayor, following approval of
the Board of Control, to enter into a contract with the land surveying firm selected in
the RFP process, and declaring an emergency. It was explained that, after agreement
on a proposed property, a survey is done. It is a physical walk-through. The RFP
process is approximately atwo-month process. It is necessary for the procedural
steps in building a new fire station. The legislation was unanimously recommended
for approval and passage under suspension of the rule.
• Ordinance 2004-198, which was also discussed during a committee meeting this
evening. Various discussion was had debating the benefits of a construction
management firm versus a general contractor-costs involved, benefits to the city. It
was decided to hold the legislation in committee for further review and discussion.
• Ordinance 2004-199, providing for architectural services for Fire Station No. 2. There
was minimal discussion as it is obvious that architectural services are required for the
design of the building.
