Public Hearing, Ordinance No. 2006-164
November 28, 2006
those businesses is desirable because Wild Oak is the cut-through from Lorain County all
the way to the turnpike and east on Lorain Road. He encourages the city to do something
that would accommodate businesses like Mr. Fortney's and others who wish to expand
and would generate additional income and revenue for North Olmsted. The city seems to
have lost its passion for the future. The more we encourage businesses and business
expansion, beyond and other than retail and including large-lot residential, it will only
benefit us in the future. He does have some criticisms of the rezoning, specifically the
allowance of two-family housing. This new zoning classification will permit a
development like the one that was just turned down to actually find a greater availability
to reach a variance for amulti-family housing project. He does not think that is a
desirable development for that area. We will give up some wonderful prime land if we
allow that to happen. Regarding the athletic complex and city-owned property in the
area, he feels that sometime in the future an administration may find there is a dire need
of income. He could picture a time when the city could sell a piece of property with the
understanding it would be developed in a certain way in order to generate income. He
suggests, if it is rezoned, a restriction should be placed on city-owned property, including
the athletic field, that it will always be for the benefit of the public, always be for the
benefit of recreation and that city-awned land would conform to any zoning classification
that would be established for that azea.
Councilman Miller noted Mr. Thomas' credentials were impressive as he is a long-time
resident and a former ten-year member of the Planning Commission.
As there were no further comments, President Kennedy adjourned the public hearing at
7: .m.
f. ~
~ _
Barbara L. Seman, Cler of Council Kevin M. Kennedy, Pre ent of Council
4
