Council Minutes of 11/21/280b
~. 2) Annual tree lighting is scheduled for Monday, December 4, for the first time at
Springvale Ballroom. Doors open at 6:45 with official lighting taking place at 7 o'clock.
At same time, will be lighting lights around City Hall property. We will be joined by
Santa and Mrs. Claus, members of the high school Pep Band, and the Black and Orange
Choir from Chestnut School. All are welcome to attend.
3) Saddened to say goodbye to Information Technology administrator Sasa Stokic whose
last day with the city will be next week. He has been a valuable and trusted member of
this administration, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.
4) Congratulations to all N. O. Police Dept. Lieutenants who took the Captain exam and
especially to Police Lt. Jamie Gallagher who finished first. Capt. Gallagher will be sworn
in at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Council Chambers.
5) The Thanksgiving food drive was a great success. The Department of Community
Life Services with the assistance of many volunteer individuals and charity organizations
presented about 500 bags of food to over 80 needy families in the N. O. community. This
will make a signif cant difference for those families as they approach Thanksgiving.
Thanks to all who were involved.
6) As a city, we have become a participant with the Cleveland Furniture Bank, a
collaborative effort of many Cleveland area organizations and cities. Contact Director
Dailey for information.
7) In conjunction with the passage of Issue 5, a statewide smoking ban in public places,
Springvale Ballroom will become smoke free. In the past, it has been up to the discretion
of those who rent. With this new law, that is no longer the case. Starting next month,
Springvale will become a smoke free facility. The golf course clubhouse had gone
smoke free earlier as a way of protecting the interests of our employees.
8) Representative from the Dept. of Senior and Adult Services will be at the Senior
Center on November 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Home Energy Assistance
Program (HEAP) sign-up. HEAP is designed to assist needy citizens with paying their
utility bills. Appointments are needed, so please coordinate through the Senior Center.
9) Senior Center will host Lifeline screenings on November 29 from 8:15 a.m. unt15:30
p.m. The tests are for strokes, aneurysms, osteoporosis, and peripheral arterial diseases.
10) New emergency electrical generator for the N. O. Police Dept. will be installed next
week.
11) Due to a delayed start on our front entrance project, weather is becoming a factor.
We need a series of warmer days for the application of the EFIS. There may be an
additional cost to heat the exterior of the building if the weather does not cooperate.
12) At our request, the State has made adjustments in the Lorain Road pro}eet. Several
ADA ramps were lowered and some asphalt has been ground out and re-laid.
13) Leaf pick-up contractor is ahead of schedule, and this has allowed the contractor to
go through neighborhoods before their scheduled time. However, they will be back to
pick up in each area during the scheduled time.
14) Asphalt parking lot for Fire Station No. 2 has been laid. Brick work on the east wall
and across the front bays is now complete.
15) Regarding legislation:
• Ordinance 2006-183. Council should have received a memo dated November 18,
2006. Especially troubling was the act of inviting city non-management
employees to be present (at the committee meeting) and to comment on
2
_ ~.,
