Residents are asked to set air conditioners at moderate levels and during <br />~~ high-peak usage, noon to 5 p.m., to limit activities that use a lot of electricity. <br />3) On August 8, there will be a special election in North Olmsted. Exercise your right to <br />vote. <br />4) A dedication of a new piano for the Senior Center was held today. The piano was <br />purchased through funds raised at the Mayor's Ball. <br />5) During July, he traveled to Europe and Asia. He believes his participation with the <br />United States Conference of Mayors and Cuyahoga County Mayors and Managers <br />Association will help to restore North Olmsted to prominence in the region. On July 5, at <br />the International Court of Justice at the Hague in Netherlands, he spoke on the subject of <br />world peace. He joined with mayors from Europe, Asia, Africa to emphasize the need <br />for all nations and all powers to make a good faith effort towards the limitation of <br />weapons of mass destruction. On 3uly 14, he lectured at Ritsumeikan University in <br />Kyoto, Japan on the topic of international strategies for local government. <br />6) The Fourth of July ceremonies were a great success with a larger turnout than last <br />year. Thanks to all who took part and to Cauncil President Kennedy who did an <br />outstanding job of acting Mayor when he was out of the country. <br />7) On July 21, he and Councilman Gareau met with director Sari Feldman and others <br />from the leadership team of the Cuyahoga County Public Library system. The group <br />discussed what needs to happen to make the North Olmsted branch even better than it is. <br />As plans are firmed up and estimates and costs are obtained, they will be brought to <br />Council for consideration. <br />8) Removal of asphalt continues on Lorain Road. Tomorrow will begin three nights of <br />work to complete the partial depth pavement repairs, and then the intermediate asphalt to <br />start putting the road back in place will begin next week. Motorists should be cautious as <br />they have taken away the road surface and the manholes are up above grade, which can <br />be quite hazardous. <br />9) Departments: <br />Community Life Services. <br />• Pilot program underway to assist residents with emergency help for prescription <br />drugs. We are trying to help those truly in need based upon their income level in <br />emergency situations with their co-pay, but our ability to continue is limited. <br />Director Dailey is working to coordinate with local pharmacies for perhaps <br />discount rates and working to find additional sources of funding. <br />• Cuyahoga County Board of Commissioners announced a free screening of "West <br />Side Story" at the Palace Theatre on August 25 at 2 p.m. Senior citizens can <br />request tickets through the Senior Center. <br />• On July 9, dedicated a garden in memory of former Springvale club pro Jerry <br />Ludvik who passed away last year. <br />• Springvale revenues continue above projections for this year. <br />Human Resources <br />• Civil Service Commission has scheduled meetings on August 8 and 11 to review <br />the statement of qualifications for testing companies for the Police Chief <br />;: ~'` examination. <br />2 <br />
