Council Minutes of 6/20/2006
Council Member Dailey Jones reported on the Recreation Master Pian focus group
meeting which was held on June 15: 1) She was a part of the group representing Council
and also as the mother of a toddler who is already using many of the city recreation
programs and facilities. The focus group was put together by the Planning Director and
the consultants to the Master Plan. Present were members of the North Olmsted
community representing the many constituencies who use recreation in our city. The
discussion was informal and its focus was basically asking those present what their
recreation needs were. What was significant about the comments that were made is the
recreation needs of this city go far beyond what our recreation complex looks like. Every
aspect of recreation was discussed, from bail diamonds to fields to playgrounds to open
green space, pools, exercise and weight training facilities, tennis courts, the ice rink,
restrooms, senior citizen needs and the recreation complex itself. Everyone in attendance
was in agreement with the need for the continued maintenance of all recreation facilities.
The consultants will pool together all the information received from the focus group and
put it together for the larger North Olmsted community to view and comment on. The
proposals would run the gamut from the least expensive model to the "Cadillac" version.
The focus group was well run, and she believes the people present accurately represented
all of the varying recreation needs of our community.
A~~~N.~~T~~~P~~~QN
Daniel Kolick, 24500 Center Ridge Road, Suite 175, Westlake, attorney for Suburban
Collision Center, located at 26618 Brookpazk Road extension. He provided a status
report on the project. Since his client moved the spray booths over to new the location,
completed December of 2005/January of 2006, they have had some complaints about the
paint smell. They are cooperating with the city and have had members of the Bldg. Dept.
out when complaints are received. To eliminate these occurrences, they have done two
things: 1. Ordered a new type of thicker filter which was installed today; 2. Determined
the doors to the paint booths seem to be damaged and were letting air pressure and odors
come out of them. New doors have been ordered and are due to be received by 3uly 10
and should be installed by July 15. They will continue to work with the city and residents
in taking care of any problems. (Presented the invoices for the filters and the doors.) The
filters cost approximately fifteen hundred/two thousand dollars, and the doors will cost
about seven thousand dollars to replace including installation. He is present tonight to let
Council know they are aware of the concerns. Since they did represent originally that
there weren't going to be these problems, they are going to continue to work and resolve
them as a good neighbor in the city. Regarding new Ordinance 2006-128, he is neither
speaking for or against it, but be aware to check what some of the cost effects may be.
Most automobile repair places, including his client's, are not air-conditioned. If the doors
are required to be shut, it will require ail these auto repair establishments to completely
air-condition their establishments. This may be a significant cost.
Councilman Gareau thanked Mr. Kolick for the update and said he appreciated Suburban
reaching out and working on this particular issue and keeping Council informed. He
inquired whether Mr. Kolick was awaze of any modifications by way of a muffler system
for noise? Is there anything that might be done in that capacity concerning the fans and
14
