Council Minutes of 6/6/2006
8) Springvale parking lot has been cleaned and striped and looks wonderful. Next year it
is the intent is to finish it off with the surface coat that should have been on in years past.
9) Attended volunteer luncheon on May 31 honoring volunteers from the Senior Center.
Pleasure to be there to recognize these good people.
10) New resident packet is complete-is streamlined and much more user friendly.
11) On June 1, swore-in firefighter, Bryan Gallagher.
12) Public can now access our 24-hour city hall on line using our a-gov services.
13) A new procedure for drug tearing and background checks of ail new and rehired
employees has gone into effect.
14) Today bids were opened for Fire Station No. 2. The groundbreaking ceremony will
be on Wednesday, June 21, at 10 a.m.
15) Recreation master plan continues. The city's consultant has organized a targeted
focus group as part of the Phase II effort. The group will meet on Thursday, June 15.
Invitations have been extended to about 25 individuals who represent various
organizations and groups in our city. A public meeting will be held later this summer
where the community as a whole is welcome to offer comments and suggestions.
16) Sadly there was a fatal fire in Rocky River at the Heritage House Condominiums last
night. North Olmsted firefighters responded with 10 personnel and 2 apparatus to assist.
17) Property maintenance inspections continue. We continue to refine the program to
make it as efficient as possible and as useful to residents.
18) The N. O. Fire Dept. coordinated a casualty drill exercise at Great Northern Mall.
We are in the process of organizing CERT, Civilian Emergency Response Teams. As
chairman of the Westshore Council of Governments, he intends to introduce that program
throughout the western suburbs in Cuyahoga County. This was a wonderful first step and
allowed us to utilize students from the high school SITES program.
19) The Recreation Dept. is pleased to have 162 children registered for summer camp.
20) The Service Dept., conducted interviews for six firms who responded to RFP's for
the operation and rate study at the WWTP. Ten years ago we had our last rate hike,
which was supposed to cover costs for five years. Before any type of a tax increase is
discussed, he and his administration will make sure they are operating as efficiently as
possible. Should a rate hike be required, it will be done with good data that supports the
exact amount that hike needs to be. The operations study will be progressing very soon.
21) Engineering for State Raute 252 overpass over I-480 will not be complete until near
the end of the year. He will not allow the construction of that overpass to start as we get
into the time of the winter shopping season. It is his intent to have construction start in
the spring of 2007.
22) Board of Control has approved Apex Construction for the new front entrance
construction to City Hall. As soon as Council approves the funding, we will initiate that
contract.
23) Frostville Museum is having an antique and classic car show this Sunday.
24) He was impressed with the posting of colors by the Scouts. They did a wonderful
job, and it reminded hirn of his days in the United States Army.
Law Director Dubelko: 1) Today is the 42"d anniversary of D Day, one of the greatest
days in American history, maybe in the history of the world.
