Council Minutes of 5/3/2006 <br />education so that we demonstrate to our citizens that the puzpose of these changes are <br />good government. The three that did pass are very good for our government. He is <br />specifically pleased with the issue he proposed to continue to redesign and recreate our <br />city government by moving the Recreation Dept. from Safety to Community Life <br />Services. Thank you very much to everybody who took the time to vote and played a <br />role in our great democracy. <br />8) Community Life Services Department: <br />• Representatives from the Cuyahoga County Auditor's office will be at the Senior <br />Center on August 15 to answer questions regarding property tax. <br />• North Olmsted was selected by the Ohio Dept. of Aging as the recipient of <br />Healthy Ohioans designation through their Health Ohioans campaign. Starting in <br />June, we will be kicking off a 12-week senior walking program. Information is <br />available at the Senior Center. <br />• Indians tickets are available for N. O. night at Jacob's Field on August 10 when <br />the Indians play the Angels. Cost is $14, with the city receiving $4 from every <br />ticket sold. The profit will go to the USO to support our service men and women. <br />9) Human Resources Department, the IT Department located and installed for City <br />Council a new dual cassette deck which should solve the recent problems. <br />10) Planning Department: <br />• The historic preservation plan is moving forward. The Planning Director has <br />begun working with the Landmarks Commission to create this plan for the city. <br />The plan will identify historic resources in the city and present pro-active <br />strategies for the preservation of these assets and increased community awareness. <br />• The front entrance project is moving forward. The bids were opened last <br />Thursday, and the contract will be awarded after all the steps have been taken, to <br />include approval by the Board of Control. <br />11) Safety Department: <br />• The annual spring ice show will be the weekend of May 19 to 21. All residents <br />are encouraged to attend this spectacular performance. <br />• Summer Learn-to-Swim registration begins on May 15 for residents. Other <br />programs are currently underway. <br />12) Service Department: <br />• We continue to work with the Ohio Department of Transportation with regard to <br />the condition of sound barrier walls along I-480. In our discussions with ODOT, <br />we're looking to have these sound barrier walls replaced with a material that will <br />be more synthetic in nature and resist some of the difficulties with wood. <br />• The Board of Health sent their crews to treat standing water. <br />13) This morning, he joined with members of the Ohio Historical Society to observe the <br />work of deconstructing the Stearns Home. The 1830's construction of the home is <br />incredible and was a construction style using beams that no longer exists. Materials from <br />the home will be moved to Frostville and will be used for the construction of a new <br />1830's-era school house. <br />Councilman Barker asked the Mayor whether the residents in the Claque Road area <br />would be notified by letter about changing the direction of travel on Claque Road. He <br />further inquired if there were any major plans of enforcement for the first couple of <br />
