Council Minutes of 1/3/2006
Human Resources
• Open enrollment for medical coverage concluded on December 21, 2005. For
2006, 201 of our employees are enrolled in Option I, 46 in Option II and 8
employees opted out.
Planning
He and the Planning Director will meet again with the Metroparks
representatives this week to discuss the proposed joint access point for Fire
Station No. 2 and the Metroparks trailhead. The Metroparks commissioners
are expected to vote on this question later this month.
Website improvements-a new section called Business and Development has
been added to the city's website. This section provides improved information
to existing and potential new businesses regarding the city's development
process, forms and applications, city statistics, business resources and more.
Safety
• The Recreation Center welcomes a new aquatic supervisor, Mrs. Susan Skuza.
Service
• The leaf pick-up program resumed last week and will continue until all the
work is completed. This program was suspended during the snows.
• Floyd Browne has finished their work on Phase I of the project which will
enable us to comply with the requirements imposed on our city by the Ohio
EPA. Our WWTP personnel met last week to review their findings, and the
report will be provided to the EPA this week.
• Anew smaller plow, a (Ford) F550 XL Superduty (dump truck) is set up and
ready for duty. Although smaller than the 1 %i ton (GMC)Top-kicks, it is
expected to have more push and will probably be the vehicle of choice for the
future.
Council Members requested copies of the Floyd Browne report, and the Mayor said the
copies would be supplied.
Councilman Tallon questioned whether the city's bond counsel had any problem with the
joint access drive proposed for the new fire station. Mayor O'Grady said the Planning
Director had reviewed potential liability, and there is none. We must use the funds for
the purchase of property and the development of the station and for the equipment in the
station. That still fits within the parameters of this project even if we move our driveway
onto the Metroparks property and make it a joint access drive. The question has not been
presented to bond counsel, but that can easily be done. We will ask the question.
Law Director Dubelko: 1) Welcome to the new City Council, particularly Nicole Dailey
Jones, the newest member of Council. He looks forward to working with everyone.
2) He prepared a written annual report for the department which contains information on
the department's budget and appropriations, members of the department and functions,
2
