Council Minutes of 9/18/2007 <br />3) He has issued a proclamation declaring September as "Save a Life" month in North <br />Olmsted. Save a Life Foundation is a national not-for-profit organization whose mission <br />is to train and develop people with basic life saving skills to aid during emergencies. <br />4) Second annual North Olmsted American Cancer Society Relay for Life is scheduled <br />for June 21 and 22, 2008. An organizational meeting is scheduled for October 2, at 6:30 <br />p.m. at the N. O. Recreation Center. Questions should be addressed to North Olmsted <br />chairperson Melissa Meredith. Melissa led the Relay for Life this year which raised <br />$70,000 for the American Cancer Society. <br />5) North Olmsted seniors or disabled persons needing help raking leaves this year are <br />encouraged to call the Community Life Services Dept. which is working with the local <br />Scout organizations and other volunteer organizations. Volunteers and people in need, <br />please contact CLS Director Dailey. <br />6) This year's Health Care Fair at the Senior Center was a great success and raised <br />$1,273 for Senior Center activities. <br />7) The heavy rains of last month did cause some significant damage to our greens at <br />Springvale Golf Course. Some temporary greens have been installed to protect the <br />repairs that are underway, and we expect to have all greens fully functional within the <br />next two weeks. The course was closed for a total of 6 %z days during that month, which <br />affects the bottom line of the course. CLS Director Dailey, Springvale Mgr. Marty <br />Young, and Finance Director Copfer are working together to make sure we properly <br />address that situation. <br />8) Civil Service Commission last night voted to establish a new eligibility list for the <br />Building Inspector positions which will be in effect for two years. The Commission also <br />certified the top five candidates on the list for employment consideration in our Building <br />Department. <br />9) The Crocker/Steams corridor plan will be presented to City Council on Thursday, <br />September 27, at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers. The public is invited to attend and learn <br />more about the city's efforts and pro-active vision for redevelopment in the Crocker- <br />Stearns corridor. <br />10) The Planning Director is organizing ahalf--day continuing education seminar for local <br />realtors in cooperation with Assistant Law Directors Carole Heyward and Bryan <br />O'Malley. Topics addressed will include development process and review, local <br />redevelopment efforts, fair housing, real property maintenance and more. The seminar <br />will be held at the North Olmsted Party Center on October 17. Please contact Planning <br />Director Wenger for more information. <br />11) The North Olmsted Police Dept. versus Fire Dept. charity football game was held last <br />Thursday at the high school stadium and raised over $9,100 for the Special Olympics. <br />Thanks to everyone involved. <br />12) Division of Youth Services has joined with the Beck Center in Lakewood for a <br />benefit production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast on Sunday, December 9, 2007 at 3 <br />p.m. All proceeds from this will go to the services and programs of the Division of <br />Youth Services. Contact Chris Allegra with questions. <br />13) Beginning this week, all of North Olmsted will have their contract garbage picked up <br />on Wednesday. <br />14) The administration gave a presentation of the WWTP rate and operational study on <br />Wednesday.
