Council Minutes of 9/4/2007
President Kennedy announced the following legislation would be considered for passage
under suspension of the rules: Resolution 2007-87 and Ordinance 2007-102..
President Kennedy announced a public hearing would be held on Ordinance 2007-103 at
7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2.
Mayor O'Grady asked that Council consider amending the minutes of the Council
meeting of August 7, 2007 on page 13 to include his responses to Mr. Orlowski. No
motion to amend the minutes was made.
REPORTS
Mayor O'Grady: 1) Proud to report the City of North Olmsted has been awarded a grant
of $70,000 from NOACA through their Transportation for Livable Communities
Initiative. The North Olmsted study that is being funded through NOACA is entitled
"The Great Northern Multi-modal Transportation Plan."
2) The spaghetti dinner hosted by the city in the big tent on the midway during this year's
Homecoming was a great success. This new innovation to the Homecoming raised about
$400 to assist the needy in our city and our men and women overseas in the armed forces.
3) The Homecoming festival and parade was a great success overall. Congratulations to
Community Council president Bryan O'Malley for his new innovations.
4) Our city had the honor this past weekend of hosting the Labor Day Parade. As we
honored organized labor, we also had the pleasure of showing to others the great things
that are happening in our community. The parade was a great success due to the efforts
of many, to include Safety Director Tom Terbrack, Service Director Duane Limpert, and
especially Community Life Services Director John Dailey who actually coined the motto
for this year's parade: "Education, the Building Block of Labor." Thanks to all of those
folks for what they did.
5) Department reports:
• Cuyahoga County Auditor Frank Russo will have representatives at the Senior
Center on September 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. regarding the expanded
Homestead exemption.
• Department of Community Life Service in conjunction with the local Scouting
organizations is organizing a leaf raking day for North Olmsted seniors and
disabled citizens. All local volunteer groups who wish to get involved are
encouraged to do so. Contact Direct Dailey to either participate as a raker or to
benefit from this program.
• Building Inspector examination will be held Saturday, September 8, at St.
Clarence Church. Twenty-six applicants are scheduled to take that examination.
• At their meeting on September 17, the Civil Service Commission will be
reviewing the suggested revisions of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations. A
copy of proposed revisions has been provided to all directors for their review, and
the commission extends and invitation to all directors to attend the meeting or
provide written comments.
• Installation of the new telephone system is scheduled to be completed by the end
of the month.
2
