Council Minutes of 3/20/2007 <br />Rep. Dennis Kucinich. Today he was in Columbus and met State leaders who reported <br />that the Local Government Fund appeazs to be secure for 2007. That fund constitutes <br />hundreds of thousands of dollars of revenue to North Olmsted. <br />6) Departments: <br />• Tax assistance for seniors through the AARP is available at the Senior Center on <br />Wednesdays through April 11. <br />• Anyone interested in assisting with our first-ever Fairview Park-North Olmsted <br />Relay for Life benefit for the American Cancer Society, please contact <br />Community Life Services Director John Dailey or North Olmsted chairperson <br />Melissa Meredith. Kick-off event will be held on Sunday, March 25, from 12 to <br />4 p.m. at Great Northern Mall center court area. <br />• A fish fiy is held every Friday through Lent at the Springvale Clubhouse from 4 <br />to 8 p.m., with an early bird senior special from 4 to 5 p.m. <br />• Volunteers are needed for various community service projects through the spring, <br />summer and fall to assist our elderly and low and moderate income families. If <br />interested in participating, contact Director Dailey. <br />• Seventeen fire fighters will take the Assistant Chief written examination on April <br />10. The top four candidates will proceed on to testing for the oral examination <br />which is Saturday, April 21. One hundred sixty-four applicants are scheduled to <br />take the entry level patrol officer examination on Saturday, Mazch 24. Afire <br />fighter/paramedic Civil Service examination is scheduled for March 31. A total <br />of 133 applications have been received thus far and will be reviewed. <br />• There was a joint swearing-in ceremony on Monday, March 19, for new police <br />patrol officer Kyle Leonard and new fire fighter/paramedic Sean Kasza. <br />Congratulations to the newest members of our outstanding safety forces in North <br />Olmsted. <br />• Patrolman Simon Cesareo has been certified for promotion to police Sgt. He has <br />been a patrolman since 1992. <br />• Stearns Road is continuing. Work will start on the water lines on the west side of <br />the road very soon. Residents will be informed should there be a need for any <br />water shutoff. <br />• State Rt. 252/Great Northern Blvd. project will begin in early April. Blaze <br />Construction is the contractor. Important to note that two-way traffic will be <br />maintained throughout the reconstruction. Additionally, he approved an action <br />wherein the speed limit during that construction will be reduced to 25 mph. <br />• Work is progressing on new roof at Fire Station No. 1. Traffic signal work has <br />begun at the new Fire Station No. 2. <br />• After 12 years of effort, the city was successful in passing warrants for a traffic <br />signal to be located on southern Stearns Road at the intersection of Dorchester. <br />Dorchester leads into the southern half of the Bretton Ridge housing area and is <br />the only entrance and exit to that development. We are pleased to have partnered <br />with the County Engineer's office to get this through. Congratulations to Ward <br />III Councilwoman Nicole Dailey Jones for her assistance. <br />7) Regarding Ordinance 2007-17, the 2007 budget, he was unhappy with the way the <br />budget process concluded last week. He did not agree with amendments recommended by <br />the committee to cut certain salary increases, to make cuts in the Mayor's office <br />2 <br />
