Input from meeting participants will be used to refine and
finalize our plan. Also, the administration has set up an on-line resident feedback form
for those who were unable to attend so that residents will be able to share their thoughts
through our website until the plan has been completed and implementation begins.
10) There will be a presentation by the city's consultants on recommendations of our
recreation master plan to a joint committee of the Recreation Commission and the
Recreation Public Parks and Buildings Committee on Tuesday, February 27, at 7 p.m. in
Council Chambers. All of Council is invited and encouraged to attend. A public meeting
will be scheduled at a later date.
11) The administration had a long weekend with the snow and a water main break on
Monday on Columbia Road between Mitchell and Broakpark Road which caused the
closure of Columbia. Our safety forces and Service Dept. are to be commended for the
manner in which they responded. They limited the damage to two homes on the street.
The two families who suffered damage are to be commended for taking this tragedy in
good stride. They are working with other family members, and the city is supporting
them in every way we can. Columbia Road is now open to through traffic.
12) Asst. Fire Chief Ed Robertson has announced his retirement effective February 26.
13} Last week, representatives of ATS met with the WWTP Superintendent and the
Finance and Service Directors regarding the rate and operational study for the WWTP.
We will continue to move forward in determining how to modernize and improve the cost
effectiveness of this facility.
14) The best fish fry in town will be served at Springvale beginning February 21 and
every Friday during Lent from 4 to 8 p.m.
Councilman Gareau asked about the time delay between the original report of the water
line break on Columbia Road and the first response from the Cleveland Water
Department. Mayor O'Grady said the damage could not have been avoided. However,
our safety forces spotted the problem about 1:30 a.m. The city notified the Cleveland
Dept. of Water and also notified the two residences that were affected. The response by
our Police, Fire and Service Departments was nothing short of spectacular. The
Cleveland Dept. of Water was notified at 1:43 a.m. They notified their investigator at
2:10 a.m. According to their notes, he arrived in the city of North Olmsted at 2:51 a.m.
The pipe crew arrived at 4 a.m,, but the water was not turned off until 10:30 a.m. Most
assuredly, that caused additional damage. We are not satisfied with that response, and we
continue to follow up on it.
Councilman Ryan commented that the Service Dept. did a fantastic job during the snow
storm last week. However, he would like to know who to call and phone numbers when
2
