Council Minutes of 2/20/2007
program was cancelled due to the unavailability of the serum. No local provider has ever
expressed an interest in this program. The committee voted unanimously to recommend
passage of the legislation to Council.
President Kennedy reported for the Committee-of--the-Whole: 1) The committee met
Monday, February 12, for a presentation by the Cleveland Water Dept. Present were
members of the administration, Councilpersons Tallon, Barker, Miller, Jones, Gareau and
Orlowski. Mr. Nielson, Commissioner of the Cleveland Water Dept., gave a power point
presentation which was available to the audience. The printed presentation is available at
the Clerk's office. There were many questions for Mr. Nielson. This was the initial
presentation, and Council will meet and further discuss this issue in detail.
Councilman Ryan commented for the record that he had a teaching commitment on
February 12 and could not attend the presentation. However, he wanted to indicate that
he does have an interest and concern in this issue and feels it is an important issue for the
community.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane, spoke about snow plowing. His street is usually one
of the last to get plowed as it is a cul-de-sac and doesn't go anywhere, and the residents
understand and accept this. During the past snow event, his neighborhood was plowed
between 2 and 6 a.m. on Wednesday and not again until 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. (He has
pictures available.) He knows it was a difficult situation and perhaps his neighborhood
was overlooked. Also, he noted that North Olmsted did not get mail delivery on
Wednesday as the postal service was having a difficult time getting the trucks out onto
the streets of the city. Mr. Lambert's comments sparked a discussion on the issue of
snow plowing, and it was suggested that he should have called about the lack of plowing
on his street. Ward IV Councilman Orlowski requested Mr. Lambert call him next time
there was a problem, and he would take care of it.
James F. Cotner, 7145 Barton Road, questioned whether the city has the ability to turn off
water mains before the Cleveland Water Dept. responds. Mayor O'Grady said we do not,
and we do not have the locations of the turn-offs. If the Cleveland Water Dept. would
identify the location and give us authorization, we would certainly do that immediately.
Mayor O'Grady commented on an issue with Time Warner Cable which had been
brought forward by Mr. Lambert at the last Council meeting. The city has researched
that and spoken with leadership of Time Warner, as has Mr. Lambert. Time Warner said
they have no record of any truck in the vicinity or of an employee approaching the home
in question. It is not the policy of Time Warner to be knocking on doors using an excuse
of a neighbor complaint to investigate what's hooked up inside the home.
6
