<br />MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />FEBRUARY 7, 2007 <br />Present: President of Council Kennedy, Council Members Barker, Gareau, <br />Dailey Jones, Miller, Orlowski, Ryan, Tallon <br />Also Present: Mayor O'Grady, Law Director Dubelko, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of <br />Council Seman <br />President Kennedy called the meeting to order at 8:05 p.m. in Council Chambers, 5200 <br />Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />The minutes of the Council meeting of January 16, 2007 were approved as written. <br />President Kennedy made the following announcements: Legislation which will be <br />considered for passage under suspension of the rules: second reading, Ordinance No. <br />2006-202; first reading, Resolution Nos. 2007-13, 2007-14. A public hearing for <br />Ordinance 2007-5 will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. <br />President Kennedy introduced recently appointed North Olmsted Public Library Branch <br />Manager Dianne Discenzo. Ms. Discenzo was recognized by all. <br />RE <br />Mayor O'Grady: 1) Introduced representatives of Japan's Local Government Center in <br />New York, Deputy Director Erena Niwa and Assistant Director Keitaro Tanaka, who <br />were visiting North Olmsted. The Center has made substantial contributions through the <br />Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (GLAIR), and the Mayor <br />presented a proclamation in recognition of this outstanding work. Ms. Niwa and Mr. <br />Tanaka accepted the proclamation on behalf of Executive Director Shinji Hirai. Ms. <br />Niwa expressed thanks for the proclamation and appreciation to Mayor O'Grady for his <br />visit to Japan where he gave an interesting and informative lecture about North Olmsted <br />and talked about how it deals in its own way with global issues. <br />2) Represented the city at the U. S. Conference of Mayors winter meeting in Washington, <br />D. C. Visited U. S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich in his new offices on Capitol Hill and <br />participated in discussions with influential people in Washington, D.C. He noted that <br />issues of importance to North Olmsted included health care, education, and damage <br />caused by unfunded. He continued his work with the Mayors for Peace organization by <br />personally leading a delegation that visited the Russian Embassy to meet with the <br />ambassador to speak about making sure that cities throughout the world are not targeted <br />~:. <br />
