Council Minutes of 12/2/2008 <br />changes or otherwise attempt to return to the Commission. So Planning & Design <br />Commission, in an attempt to clear up their schedule, had a meeting last week pertaining <br />to this. The developer did not attend. There have been no communications, except for an <br />e-mail stating that they would still like to keep it going. Since nothing has happened <br />since November of 2007, there was a motion made by the Planning Commission to <br />approve the proposal for the Barton Park Senior Living Center, and it was unanimously <br />denied. The proposal came to BZD tonight, and it was briefly discussed. At committee, <br />Councilman Barker made a motion to approve CMS06-40, the Barton Park Senior Living <br />Center. The motion was seconded by Councilman Gareau, and the committee <br />unanimously voted to not approve the proposal. The committee meeting adjourned at <br />7:20 p.m. Councilman Barker made a motion to approve CMS06-40, Barton Fark Senior <br />Living, P. P. No. 233-07-009, located on Barton Road. The motion was seconded by <br />Councilman Gareau and failed unanimously. <br />Councilman Mahoney, chairperson of the Recreation, Public Parks & Buildings <br />Committee: 1) The committee met on November 25, 2008 at 8 p.m. Present were <br />committee members Mahoney and Nicole Dailey Jones; President of Council Kennedy <br />and Councilmen Barker, tJrlowski, and Gareau; the Human Resources Director and the <br />Community Life Services Director. Discussed by the committee was Resolution No. <br />2008-153, sponsored by Mayor O'Grady, authorizing the payment of $3,575.50 to Boss <br />Concrete for the installation of concrete at the North Olmsted Recreation Center skate <br />park and declaring an emergency. Community Life Services Director Dailey indicated <br />that this resolution is to pay Boss Concrete for the installation of concrete at the park. All <br />services were rendered and performed in a good workmanlike manner. It was noted by <br />Councilman Gareau that Boss Concrete is a common contributor to the city of North <br />Olmsted and their reputation is well known. By a vote of 2-0, the committee <br />recommended approval. <br />2) A Recreation Commission meeting was held yesterday, December 1, at the Rec <br />Center. The Special Olympics is coming to the North Olmsted Ice Rink on December 14 <br />from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. There are over 100 athletes participating; iYs an all-day <br />competition that is open to the public and anyone who is interested is urged to attend. <br />AUDIENCE PARTICII~AT~QN <br />1) Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane, said he attended the committee meetings where <br />the city financial situation was discussed. He feels the Council could take a $4,000 pay <br />cut and be within the average of other council people. Apparently, the city is in a <br />desperate situation. The Mayor had spoken about his feeling that he was underpaid for <br />his qualifications, his background, experience and education. Mr. Lambert noted that the <br />Mayor of New York works for $1 a year. Now the city is talking about cutting <br />employees, specifically the safety forces. These are desperate times, and there are <br />desperate people out there in this world today. If anything, this city needs safety farces <br />more than ever to protect us and to give us the kind of security both in the business <br />district and the residential district that we should have. The layoffs are not a good plan. <br />It should start right here at the top at Council, which should take pay cuts and also the <br />Mayor and Finance Director. He said the Mayor should not take trips to the Hague but <br />10 <br />
