<br /> <br />MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />NOVEMBER 18, .2008 <br />Present: President of Council Kennedy, Council Members Barker, Gareau, <br />Dailey Jones, Kearney, Mahoney, Orlowski, Ryan <br />Also Present: Mayor O'Grady, Law Director Dubelko, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of <br />Council Seman <br />President Kennedy called the meeting to order at 8 p.m. in Council Chambers, 5200 <br />Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />Mayor O'Grady asked that the minutes of the Council meeting of October 21, 2008 be <br />changed- on page 15 where it stated, "Mayor O'Grady disputed Mr. Mahoney's <br />comments" to read that he "disagreed" as he did not want it to appear that he thought Mr. <br />Mahoney was misspeaking or being disingenuous; he just disagreed with his <br />interpretation. Councilman Gareau made a motion to change the word "disputed" to <br />"disagreed." The motion was seconded by Councilman Mahoney and passed <br />unanimously. The minutes were approved as amended. <br />The minutes of the special Council meeting of October 28, were approved as written. <br />The minutes of the Council meeting of November 5, 2008 were approved as written. <br />President Kennedy announced the following legislation would be considered for passage <br />under suspension of the rules: second reading, Resolutions 2008-132, 2008-148; first <br />reading, Resolution 2008-151. <br />REPS <br />Mayor O'Grady: 1) On November 11, 2008, the 90th anniversary of the Armistice, he <br />attended a ceremony in Flanders Field, Belgium in remembrance of the fallen soldiers <br />from WWI. At a recent U. S. Conference of Mayors, he led an effort to pass legislation <br />opposing the practice of targeting nuclear weapons on population center cities. As a <br />continuation of that effort, he spoke on the issue of nuclear nonproliferation at the Palais <br />des Nations (United Nations) in Geneva, Switzerland. (He distributed ceremonial <br />poppies, which were used by the official delegation at the ceremony in Belgium, to the <br />Finance and Law Directors and City Council. The poppy is a symbol of peace.) <br /> <br />
