Council Minutes of 11/18/20(18 <br />2) Thanks to all who participated in the North Olmsted Veterans Day ceremonies. It is <br />exceedingly important to remember the sacrifice of all those who have served in our <br />military. <br />3) Two employees at our Senior Center, Beth Reitz the Activities Coordinator, and <br />Tiffany Hunt the Outreach Worker, were honored with the 2008 Dr. Maldonado award. <br />The Carlos A. Maldonado, MD award celebrates excellence in service to older adults. <br />We are proud of the assistance these two employees provide our North Olmsted <br />community and to our senior population. <br />4) This Saturday mazks the annual Thanksgiving meal give-away to those who are less <br />fortunate in North Olmsted. This year, working in cooperation with area churches and <br />organizations, we will provide an entire Thanksgiving meal to about 100 needy families <br />in our community. <br />5) The third annual Rake North Olmsted Day was held on Saturday, November 8. <br />Special thanks to Todd Musial for his assistance in organizing the event that assisted over <br />70 different senior citizens or disabled citizens in North Olmsted. Thanks to all who <br />assisted in this noble effort. <br />6) Mae O'Grady, with the assistance of the Kiwanis organization, will again offer a free <br />Thanksgiving dinner to seniors and other needy citizens at 12 p.m. at the North Olmsted <br />Party Center on Thursday, November 27. Interested parties can sign up at our Senior <br />Center, and meals can be delivered to shut-ins. <br />7) Five city employees tested for the position of Road Foreman last week. Results will <br />be reviewed by the Civil Service Commission soon <br />8) The f rst negotiation session with the International Association of Fire Fighters is <br />scheduled for Wednesday, November 19; the Fraternal Order of Police session is <br />scheduled for Tuesday, November 25. Current contracts expire at the end of this year. <br />9) The second phase of our ADA assessment is now complete. As part of the <br />consultant's scope of services, directors and division heads will be attending an ADA <br />training workshop this Thursday afternoon. <br />10) The VFW Officer of the Year award banquet is scheduled for Monday, November 24, <br />at the Community Cabin. Police Officer 3ames Carbone and Fire Fighter Dave Stein will <br />be recognized for their outstanding service to our community and to our citizens. <br />11) The Westshore Council of Governments met today to review the request for <br />proposals for consultant services to consider the study of a fire district. The top three <br />firms will be scheduled for interviews in early January. <br />12) The North Olmsted Police Dept. is participating in the Cuyahoga County DUI Task <br />Force. The task force was awarded a second prize trophy for multi jurisdictional task <br />forces in the International Association of Chiefs of Police 2007 Law Enforcement <br />Challenge. Additionally, the North Olmsted Police Dept. was awarded a portable breath <br />testing instrument by the task force for having the highest ratio of DUI arrests for hours <br />worked on the task force. <br />13) Stearns Road is open in North Olmsted. Weather permitting, Crocker-Stearns should <br />be open all the way through by the end of December. <br />14) City crews have begun reconstruction of a cul-de-sac on W. 230 Street, which will be <br />reconstructed without the center island. <br />15) Replacement of the split-rail fencing at both of the city cemeteries has begun. <br />2 <br />
